2024 UNC Commit Ian Jackson ‘Proud’ of What Rob Dillingham Has Done at Kentucky
After spending a year at Overtime Elite, Rob Dillingham is lighting the college basketball world on fire at Kentucky. Meanwhile back in Atlanta, Dillingham’s impact is being felt at OTE.
Ian Jackson, a class of 2024 shooting guard committed to North Carolina, is looking to make a similar impact for the Overtime Elite program. Jackson told KSR+ that “it’s amazing” to see what Dillingham has done at Kentucky.
“It just shows how much work can be done in this league,” Jackson said. “With him going to the college level and people not expecting him to play like he’s playing, I’m proud of him. He’s been playing great.”
Watching Kentucky Beat UNC in the CBS Sports Classic
Ian Jackson might be proud of the way Rob Dillingham has played this season at Kentucky. However, he wasn’t too excited to see Dillingham and UK beat his future team in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta on December 16.
“We came up short in the second half, but it was a great game,” Jackson said. “Kentucky has a great team this year. They had a good game and they beat us.”
Jackson watched the game from home. Although he couldn’t remember “play-by-play” he thought UNC “played a good game.”
As for his decision to commit to UNC over Kentucky, Jackson said that head coach Hubert Davis “sealed the deal” for him. It also helped that all of the North Carolina staff went to UNC themselves.
“The whole coaching staff is family-oriented,” he said. “Everybody on the coaching staff was once a Tar Heel. That family aspect was what sealed it for me.”
In His Coach’s Words
Ian Jackson is playing this season at Our Saviour Lutheran School (Bronx, NY) which competes in the Overtime Elite league as the “Jelly Team.”
Leading the charge for “Jelly Team” is head coach Pete Wehye, who things very highly of Jackson’s game. He helped coach Jelly Fam to 79-77 win over the YNG Dreamerz on Friday night, in which Jackson scored a game-high 24 points.
“The way he goes downhill, the way he shoots the ball, his understanding of playing both ends [stands out],” he said. “You saw at the end of the game, he took the assignment of guarding Eli Ellis. He wants that challenge.”
Wehye is already seeing improvement in Jackson’s game this season. Notably, in his shooting.
“You have to see the improvement in his game,” Wehye said. “He’s knocking the ball down more. He’s hitting the mid-range, getting downhill, defending. The kid has a shot to be great.”
