2025 4-star CB Onis Konanbanny talks growing bond with Miami: “I love the Hurricanes and I love their defense”
Since moving to the United States at the age of 15 from London, England, to play football, things have been moving rapidly for Heathwood Hall Episcopal School (S.C.) 2025 four-star cornerback Onis Konanbanny, who has begun to draw interest from several Power Five programs, including the Miami Hurricanes.
“I love the Hurricanes, and I love their defense,” Konanbanny told CaneSport. “It’s a very aggressive defense that catches picks and is just a lockdown defense. I also have a great relationship with Coach (Jahmile) Addae.”
With a plethora of top programs chasing the No. 176 overall prospect and No. 21 cornerback in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Hurricanes defensive backs coach Addae’s message has been quite simple and straightforward to Konanbanny.
“If I want to have an impact and take over the game, Miami is the place to be,” Konanbanny said. “Coming from Europe and London, this is like a dream come true. Even being brought into the conversation in the class is just such a great feeling.”
This past spring, Konanbanny added offers from Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, USC, Miami, and others. Currently, Konanbanny’s recruitment is still wide open as he is looking at all of his options.
“My relationship with the staff,” Konanbanny said when asked what he’d be looking for most in a potential program. “The college as a whole, like if football ever ends for me, what can that college do for me in the long run with my degree? And then somewhere I can play man-on-man defense and be myself.”
After spending time at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, Georgia, Konanbanny has since moved to Columbia, South Carolina, to play for Heathwood Hall Episcopal School for his junior season.
“I’m a man-to-man corner who loves straight press,” Konanbanny said. “I’m like Sauce Gardner; I’m long and lean. As soon as that ball is in the air, it’s not a 50-50 ball; I’m coming down with it.”
Although Konanbanny has yet to visit Miami, the 6-foot-2, 170-pounder hopes to visit Coral Gables soon to take in all that the Hurricanes have to offer.
“I was supposed to go to the Georgia Tech game this week, but I couldn’t make it,” Konanbanny “I’ll for sure be there sometime this year.”
On that future visit, he hopes to sit down and connect with Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and the entire Miami staff.
“I really want to watch practice and look at the campus,” Konanbanny added. “Meet coach Cristobal and have a good sit-down meeting with him.”
CaneSport’s take
Thus far, Konanbanny has built a strong relationship with Addae, who has been playing a key role in his recruitment. Konanbanny’s interest in Miami is strong early on, so getting the talented defensive back on campus relatively soon would be impactful for the Hurricanes.
