2025 guard excited for Iowa visit

The Iowa basketball program is looking to add a shooter in the Class of 2025. Fran McCaffery was front and center on Friday night watching one of his top targets, Simon Walker, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard in the process of possibly becoming a combo guard.

The three star prospect ranked 156th in the country by On3.com’s consensus rankings, is showing a strong interest in the Hawkeye basketball program thanks to the recruit efforts of Fran McCaffery and assistant coach Courtney Eldridge.

“He (Fran McCaffery) says that I am a perfect fit for Iowa. He says I am a great shooter that plays the game the right way and sees the floor really well. He loves how engaged I am on both ends of the floor. He feels like I would be a great fit,” Walker said Friday evening at the Under Armor Finals in Chicago.

Iowa is set to host Walker for an official visit coming up in early September, the weekend that Iowa football hosts Iowa State.

“I haven’t been to Iowa City before, so I am excited to see it,” he said. “I want to see what the atmosphere is going to be like there. I know it will be good that weekend for the Iowa State football game.”

In addition to Iowa, the Huntsville, AL native has a host of schools he plans to officially visit this fall. Those schools include Auburn, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Butler.

While many might think that the in-state player might be ready leaning towards staying close to home at Auburn, he says that he is wide open.

“They have been recruiting me since my freshman year. They like that I am an in-state kid and I have been around the program. There is that pull to go there as an in-state kid, but my recruitment is wide open. They are an option, but I am open.”
