2025 Top-100 WR Kaliq Lockett is enjoying his recruitment reach new heights
Kaliq Lockett has emerged as one of the top pass-catchers in the country in next year’s recruiting class out of the Dallas Metroplex.
Lockett, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 9-ranked WR in the country for the 2025 class out of Sachse (Texas) High, has collected offers from Texas, Florida, USC and Oklahoma since his spectacular junior season came to a finish. In 2023, Lockett turned 69 receptions into 1,300 yards with 13 touchdowns.
Along the Horns, Sooners, Gators and Trojans, Lockett has made game-day visits to Lubbock and Baton Rouge. Penn State, Michigan and Clemson are also high on the On300 receiver’s list.
“I’m liking my recruiting process so far,” Lockett told On3. “I love my offers. I’ve watched their games and like what I’ve seen from all of them. The season I had, I know I’m one of the best in the nation.”
Lockett will dive into visits this off-season with LSU, Michigan and Penn State among the teams in the mix to host the 2025 WR.
Lockett made game-day visits to Texas Tech, LSU this fall
Lockett made his way to Texas Tech for a game-day visit this fall.
Justin Johnson and Joey McGuire made a strong impression on the in-state blue-chipper. So did the Texas Tech faithful.
“I loved it,” Lockett said of his time in West Texas. “The fan base is really rocking. As soon as I stepped foot on the field, the fans were screaming ‘Liq, this is the place. Go ahead and Wreck ‘Em!’ I felt love from Texas Tech. Coach Jucie is that guy for me, too, and I like what Coach McGuire is doing.”
The top-100 recruit was in Tiger Stadium last month when LSU hosted Florida.
Cortez Hankton and Lockett have meshed quickly since the offer and the visit.
“Coach Cortez Hankton from LSU is my guy,” he said. “He has a long resume coaching the best WR in the country at Vanderbilt, at Georgia, and now at LSU. He’s done a great job developing Malik (Nabers) and BT (Brian Thomas) and Kyren Lacy. I like his personality, he’s a fun guy to be around as well, he’s energetic, and he loves the game. We connected automatically when we met. I loved my time in Baton Rouge. That place was rocking when they played Florida.”
Ohio State, Michigan on Lockett’s mind
The Buckeyes wasted no time offering the Sache (Texas) High receiver after his breakout junior campaign.
Brian Hartline needed no introduction to Lockett.
“With Coach Hartline, you know his resume, that speaks for itself,” he started.
“One thing about Coach Hartline — he’s not gonna recruit you if you’re not a dog,” the 6-foot-1, 175-pound playmaker continued. “If he wants you, he’s gonna get you. That’s something he’s proved over there with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, and now, Jeremiah Smith in the 2024 class. He’s done a great job recruiting WR and developing them. Ohio State is top two, if not, ‘WRU’ … they produce some of the best wide receivers in the NFL and college football.”
Michigan’s Ron Bellamy has also maintained an active presence in Lockett’s recruitment.
“Coach Bellamy from Michigan, he’s done a great job recruiting me over the past 8-9 months,” he said. “That’s a pretty cool relationship.”
Lockett has a history with the Longhorns, the Sooners
Lockett made a junior day trip down to the Forty Acres as a freshman. Last week, the On300 receiver picked up an offer from Chris Jackson and the Longhorns.
“I visited Texas as a freshman and it was my first college visit I went to. I loved it at Texas,” Lockett said. “Especially being a Dallas kid, everyone talks about Texas, about being a Longhorn or a Sooner. Why not put on for your home state — it’s every kid’s dream at one point.”
Emmett Jones offered Lockett at Texas Tech and followed suit at Oklahoma after his junior season wrapped up.
“I first talked with Coach Emmett last year around this time whenever he was still at Texas Tech,” he recalled. “Coach Emmett is a football junkie. He’s originally from Dallas and we automatically clicked, we’re Texas boys. Coach (Brent) Venables has done a great job this year with the Oklahoma team and I like what I’ve been seeing from Oklahoma as well.”
Lockett has a strong interest in Clemson, USC
USC’s Dennis Simmons was by Lockett’s high school earlier this month and extended an offer.
The elite 2025 WR, also a Los Angeles native, is high on the Trojans’ offense.
“One thing about USC and Coach Lincoln Riley — they were always a good team, but when Coach Riley got there the offense changed, the rhythm changed. This season clicked. Last season clicked. They know how to get their playmakers the ball.”
Another Riley invested in this recruitment is Clemson OC Garrett Riley, who has made a splash in DFW lately. Riley and Tyler Grisham have both left a mark on the WR.
“My first convo with Coach Grisham, he was energetic. He’s always talking about football. We talked on the phone for 20 minutes about football and also how life was going,” Lockett said. “What I like is that he’s getting to know me outside of football, that’s why I’m clicking well with so many big-time colleges and coaches. They wanna get to know me outside of football and know me as a person..”
