4-star Miami Hurricanes commitment details recruitment as LSU, Florida State pursue; will attend game vs. Clemson tomorrow night

Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star 2025 receiver Waden Charles may be committed to Miami, but that hasn’t stopped programs like LSU and Florida State from pushing hard after the top-250 prospect in next year’s recruiting cycle.

Charles, the No. 240 recruit and No. 32 receiver in the On3 Industry Ranking, committed to Miami just over a month ago but has kept his recruitment open, and Penn State, Auburn, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, Louisville and Kansas have taken advantage of opportunities to contact him. He said those programs have recruited him the most aggressively (outside of Miami) since he committed to the Hurricanes Sept. 10, but the Canes are still the undisputed leader in his recruitment.

Charles said he feels he’s grown significantly closer to Miami’s coaching staff since he committed and talks to the Hurricanes more than any other program. He plans to attend Miami’s Saturday game against Clemson, which will mark his second Miami game day visit of the fall. He also attended the Hurricanes’ Sept. 9 game against Texas A&M and committed the following day.

“They’re always keeping in contact with me, making sure I’m okay,” Charles said. “It’s not even just about football. They talk to me about things in my personal life, making sure everything is good and trying to help with anything outside of football. They let me know that I’m a priority and that I’m gonna be one of the people who changes the program one day.”

Charles said he wants to see the Hurricanes’ offense put up points against Clemson and find the same offensive success the team did against Texas A&M in Week 2.

“Miami started the season off pretty well, and they’re still on an early swing,” Charles said. “They’re doing good. They ran into a few bumps in the road, but that doesn’t change who they are as a team. They’ve still had a lot of success, and next week they’re definitely going to bounce back and start winning again.”

Charles has already visited Auburn this fall for the Tigers’ game against Georgia and still hopes to see Tennessee, Penn State and LSU. He also plans to visit Florida State as a Seminole recruit for the Miami-Florida State game in Tallahassee this year, but says he’ll be rooting for the Hurricanes.

CaneSport’s Take

Charles is on track to be one of the best receiver prospects in South Florida in the 2025 cycle, and his commitment helped the Hurricanes jump to No. 6 in next year’s recruiting rankings. If Miami can add fellow top-100 prospect Naeshaun Montgomery as well in the 2025 class, the Hurricanes will have a clear jump on next year’s class and be well on track to another top-10 class.
