4-star PG Cayden Boozer recaps four official visits; updates recruitment with schools like Arkansas, UNC, Michigan, and UConn
Cayden Boozer is the No. 17 overall player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-3 point guard earned another state championship this season at Miami (FL) Columbus High and is currently the No. 1 seed with the Nightrydas program heading into Nike’s Peach Jam.
“I’m just trying to be a star in my role,” Boozer told On3. “Whether that is playing defense, playmaking, or scoring when I’m needed to. I’m just trying to be the best player I can be for my team. I watch a lot of Jrue Holiday and Jason Kidd. Kidd’s reads are unbelievable and Holiday’s defense, he is one of the top perimeter defenders in the league right now.”
Throughout his high school career, Boozer has done a lot of winning. At Miami (FL) Columbus High he has won three consecutive state championships. With USA Basketball, he has won a FIBA U16 gold medal. And with his Nightrydas AAU program, he has won back-to-back Nike Peach Jam titles.
“I hate losing, and really always want to be a winner in everything I do,” Boozer said. “I think it is that competitive edge that I have over most players, always wanting to win.”
On3 caught up with four-star point guard Cayden Boozer at the USA Basketball U17 Training Camp to discuss his recruitment.
“I took official visits last year to Duke, Florida, Miami, and Kentucky,” Boozer said. “The visit with Kentucky was with Coach Cal (John Calipari).”
Boozer breaks down official visits
MIAMI: “Things are good with Miami. I’ve been around that program for most of my life. I went to the UM basketball camps when I was younger. So I’ve known that coaching staff for a really long time. That relationship has always been good.”
FLORIDA: “My relationship with Florida is really good right now. They come to practices and they come to games, and that has continued to grow since our visit.”
DUKE: “I feel like my relationship with the Duke staff has grown a lot. Being on our visit, for the Arizona game, they lost. So being able to see them fight through the adversity and showing what it means to be a Duke player and a Duke team. So seeing that was kind of mind-opening for me, for sure. I feel like my relationship with that staff is pretty good.”
Kentucky, Arkansas, and John Calipari
“I feel like my relationship with Coach Cal has grown since our visit,” Boozer said. “He is a players coach. Obviously, he has coached a lot of NBA players and he knows how to get players to their dream. I feel like knowing a coach like that is always good to have.
“He tells me that Arkansas is a basketball school. All of the games are sold out and that area is a great environment.
“The new Kentucky staff has reached out, and they’re recruiting us. I’ve talked to Coach (Mark) Pope twice. He wants a chance to be in our recruitment and to be able to show us what his program is all about. He is trying to build that relationship now. Coach got the job kind of late into our recruitment process, but he is trying to build.
“The facilities are amazing at Kentucky. You know, the technology they have there is elite.”

“I’ve talked with Michigan a few times,” Boozer said. “UNC is still involved, and I’ve had a conversation with UConn, too, but they haven’t offered or anything yet.”
MICHIGAN: “Coach (Dusty) May was at FAU and now he has a bigger opportunity with Michigan, being in the Big Ten. He’s just trying to tell me that Michigan is going to become an elite program again. They have had their ups and downs over the last few years, but he is trying to change the program and bring them back to a March Madness team.
“He likes that I can play fast and share the ball. I can do a lot of things offensively and defensively, and he likes that I’m a winner.”
UNC: “Things are good with them. I talk with UNC every now and again. They still come to games and they come to practices. We talk about stuff on the court and off the court, so I feel like we have built a good relationship.”
UConn: “They asked me if we were interested in the school and if it was something we would want to look into. I mean, I’m definitely interested. They won back-to-back, it would be hard to say that I’m not interested in learning more. I’m just very open-minded to seeing whatever they have in store for me.”
In Boozer’s words
“I’m not sure yet if I plan on taking any more visits,” Boozer said. “I’m trying to focus on making this USA Basketball team and Peach Jam right now. I will figure out the rest after that. I’m not rushing anything. Obviously, it would be nice to finish my recruitment before my senior school season starts, but there is no timeline right now, I’m just hopeful.
“My brother (Cam Boozer) and I are not a package deal. I mean, obviously, our recruitment is paired together because we go on the visits at the same time and see all the college atmospheres at the same time. But we are definitely not a package deal, our recruitment will be our own decision.
“Having that trust in a coach and playing for a coach who needs me on the court will be big for me as I go through this process. Obviously, I want to be able to make an impact as a freshman and be able to help my team out as much as I can. But finding a place that has that family culture, and I want to play for a winning program.”
