4-star RB Marquise Davis ‘felt like a priority’ while visiting Michigan this week
Cleveland (Ohio) Cleveland Heights four-star running back Marquise Davis took an unofficial visit to Michigan on March 26. He previously went to the Wolverines’ campus multiple times when Jim Harbaugh was head coach, but this week marked his first trip to Michigan with Sherrone Moore at the helm.
Both Moore and new running backs coach Tony Alford spent time with Davis on his visit. He left Ann Arbor feeling very good about the defending national champions.
“I felt like a priority,” Davis told On3. “They singled me out and I was bonding with coaches the whole time. I talked to coach Moore during the spring practice and I’ve never talked to a coach that long during a spring practice. He made me feel like a priority while talking to him.”
Davis enjoyed speaking with multiple Michigan coaches and watching practice while on campus. He believes he would fit in with the Wolverines’ culture, players and people around the program.
Moore was promoted to succeed Harbaugh in the offseason after serving as Michigan’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He made a strong impression on the No. 5 player in Ohio during their conversation.
“Coach Moore, he’s cool,” said Davis, the No. 102 overall prospect and No. 7 running back in the 2025 On300. “He’s transparent. Coach Moore’s not going to tell me what I want to hear, but will tell me what it is. He’s a really real person overall.”
Alford and how Michigan practices are more reasons why the Wolverines have Davis’ attention
Davis got to know Alford when he was the running backs coach at Ohio State. While the four-star was “surprised” by Alford’s move to Michigan, he supports his decision.
The two are now continuing their relationship with Alford wearing maize-and-blue. Like Moore, the Wolverines assistant is making him feel like a top target for the Big Ten program.
“He’s cool,” Davis said. “He’s a genuine guy. Coach Alford is always upfront and he’s always very transparent. That’s what I like about him.”
Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains three players in Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot four-star quarterback Carter Smith, Howell (Mich.) four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and Alcoa (Tenn.) three-star tight end Eli Owens. Moore and Co. are hoping Davis is one of the next prospects to join that group.
One of the highlights of Davis’ visit was watching the Big Ten champions practice with intensity. He also likes how Moore is leading the program following Harbaugh’s departure to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
“I think there is a different vibe there,” Davis said. “Everything was so chill and calm. The practice was cool. It was impressive. I got to see how they play.”
