4-star targets Jalen Wiggins, CJ Wiley open up after Florida State Junior Day

4-star targets Jalen Wiggins, CJ Wiley open up after Florida State Junior Day

Even though he committed to the Florida Gators earlier this week, Tallahassee Rickards four-star defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins has not shut down his recruitment. That fact was evident on Saturday when Wiggins showed up for Florida State’s Junior Day event.

The four-star lineman said FSU’s coaches asked him to come by so he could, “feel the experience and vibe.”

“It went really well. I talked with a lot of coaches, talked with Coach [Mike] Norvell, also with the staff,” Wiggins said. “I was with Coach Odell [Haggins], Coach [John Papuchis], I really enjoyed just coming back. It always feels really special to come here.”

After finishing the visit, Wiggins acknowledged that staying close to home for college is something he thinks about. It also is something the Florida State staff has tried to hammer home with him.

“Being at home, it’s kind of like one thing that you think about,” he said. “You wouldn’t want to be at home in school. But after talking from time to time, you think about seeing different perspectives … you kind of make judgments between that. And that’s one judgment that I usually have made, kind of like not wanting to be in town.”

Despite that and being committed to the Gators, Florida State still remains strong in Wiggins’ mind.

“I still see Florida State as, and I’ve always had, I always see it as a high place,” he said. “Me being in Tallahassee is one of those places you always know it’s here.”

Wiggins is clearly keeping all of his options open. He now plans to visit UCF and Miami before the dead period begins. He also wants to visit Stanford at some point down the road.

4-star Georgia WR enjoys Florida State visit

Among the other impressive prospects to visit Florida State on Saturday was four-star Georgia wide receiver CJ Wiley.

This was Wiley’s second time at FSU; he also came to the Miami game last fall.

“It went good … Coach Norvell, he talked about building a bond,” the receiver said. “I like that. And all the coaches I talked to, we have like a good connection.”

The 6-foot-4 prospect also got the chance to spend time with Florida State receivers coach Ron Dugans. And Dugans explained how Wiley would be used in the offense if he were to come to FSU.

“He said we’ll like to have you [line up] outside because of the speed,” Wiley said. “And he likes what he sees on film.”

Based on his post-visit comments, the Seminoles appear to be in a good spot for the top-50 wide receiver in the country. The Milton, Ga., product said he hopes to come back to watch a spring practice, and he added that Florida State is one of his top options.

“I’m really considering coming here, but I haven’t brought down my top schools yet …,” Wiley said. “I might come back here in the spring.”

As of now, Wiley has no other visits scheduled.
