4-star WR Shamarius Peterkin’s bond with NC State grows ‘tremendously’

Shamaruis Peterkin visited NC State for two game days in the fall, and those trips helped the Wolfpack become a contender in his recruitment. He returned to campus Saturday for an unofficial visit.

Over the past week, the four-star, class of 2025 wide receiver visited South Carolina and met with college coaches at Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mt. Tabor High, including NC State’s staff. The Pack has established itself as a school to watch in Peterkin’s recruitment.

NC State hosted the 6-2 receiver for the Notre Dame game last fall, and he returned to Raleigh to watch the win over Clemson. Those trips were a pleasant surprise and a significant reason why he visited for the Jan. 20 junior day.

“For one, it’s close to home, and then I love their atmosphere,” Peterkin said. “The atmosphere, it just blew my mind. I didn’t know NC State was going to be like that for real.”

Now that the Pack is one of his top schools, Peterkin decided to make the drive from Winston-Salem to Raleigh for his third visit in the past few month. His main goal for the trip was to continue building bonds with the coaching staff.

Wide receivers coach Joker Phillips is the priority junior’s primary recruiter, and the Wolfpack assistant stopped by Mt. Tabor last week to see the receiver. Their relationship is continuing to grow stronger.

“It’s getting closer as time goes by,” Peterkin said. “We’ve been talking lately, just getting closer.”

Overall, the receiver said his bond with NC State has grown “tremendously,” over the past couple of months. Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, UNC, Tennessee, Maryland and Louisville are also standing out in his recruitment right now.

Peterkin holds a long list of Power Five offers, and he is already starting to look towards his summer official visits. He plans on spending weekends with North Carolina and NC State so far and is very interested in staying in-state for his collegiate career.

“It’s easier for my mom and my family to get to the games,” Peterkin said.

Moving forward, Peterkin wants to learn more about NC State’s academics and how the football staff treats its players. He plans on spending this offseason playing for his school’s basketball team and visiting schools he has not previously seen.

Peterkin is the No. 197 recruit in the country, the No. 28 wide receiver nationally, and he ranks No. 6 in North Carolina’s 2025 class. During his junior year, he dominated as an outside receiver, hauling in 42 passes for 824 yards and 12 touchdowns.
