Florida State and Georgia are in pursuit of Florida 4-star DL commit Nasir Johnson

Florida State and Georgia are in pursuit of Florida 4-star DL commit Nasir Johnson

Dublin (Ga.) Nasir Johnson committed to Florida on June 17 during his official visit to Florida. It was a huge weekend for the Gators picking up multiple commitments and the four-star defensive has been locked into Billy Napier‘s program since.

Florida State was a school battling with the Seminoles before the commitment. Johnson was scheduled to take his official visit to Tallahassee the weekend after his visit to Gainevilles. After the commitment, that visit didn’t take place. Florida State didn’t give up though and the No. 175 prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings is set to check out Mike Norvell‘s program this weekend.

“Florida State has been coming hard,” Johnson told On3. “I should be at the Duke game this weekend. It has been a while since I was down there, so it will be good to be back. I was there in the spring, but then after I committed to Florida, I didn’t take my official visit to Florida State.

“Coach Odell Haggins has still been on me hard and they are having a phenomenal season, so I want to get back down there. They have been playing dominant football and if I went there, I could be a part of a strong program that is getting better. It would be cool to be part of the progress of Florida State getting back to the top.”

Georgia is another school in pursuit of Johnson. He was in Athens for the Kentucky game a couple of weeks ago and he is likely to return early in November when the Bulldogs host Ole Miss.

“Since early in the season, Georgia has been coming very strong. They have been recruiting me really hard lately. Georgia wants me to be a part of the team, they want me to be a Dawg and it is a school I have to look at.

“I am from Georgia, they want to look after my family and Georgia is Georgia for me. I was a fan and it was my dream school at one time, so being a Georgia boy, I have to consider them.”

It will not be easy for Florida State or Georgia to flip Johnson from Florida. He still feels good about the Gators.

“You can say I am locked in with Florida,” Johnson added. “I am still going to take visits and let it play out, then put it in God’s hands. I will see where my mind goes after getting to Florida State and back to Georgia.

“In the end, I want to put myself in the best position and let God take care of it. I am not going to force anything or rush anything.”

Johnson still feels good about his commitment to Florida

Johnson was at the Swamp when Florida hosted Charlotte in September and he plans to return later this season. Since the commitment, the communication has been strong, he likes how Florida is playing and the Gators are still his top school.

“I still feel good about Florida,” Johnson said. “Schools are recruiting me hard and I am going to take some visits, but I don’t see anything changing any time soon. I have bonds with the coaches and players at Florida. The people at Florida are down to earth and I am already treated like family.

“I have a great relationship with TJ Searcy. He and other players treat me like a brother. My connections with Coach Sean Spencer and Coach Kali James make it feel like I have known them for years. The coaches love their players at Florida. The players are treated like sons.

“My feelings about Florida are strong. It is a place I like being because of the people.”
