Alabama DL target Steve Mboumoua takes in first college game
Steve Mboumoua, four-star defensive lineman from Quebec City in Canada (originally from Cameroon), watched his first-ever college football game on Saturday. He was in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-Tennessee game which resulted in an incredible comeback victory for the Crimson Tide.
“The defense was very nice especially in the second half,” Mboumoua said after Alabama’s 34-20 win against the Volunteers. “I talked to the coaches after the game. They talked about they have a really young team. They would like for me to be a part of it.
“I thought the defense had a really good game. There was a lot of gap control on the defensive line. I was excited and went crazy during the sack where they scooped and scored.”
It was also the first college game experience for his head football coach, Marc-André Dion. Steve said he, ”loved seeing all the fans yelling Roll Tide.” While his coach added, “We were right there in the end zone on the scoop-and-score. It was a great feeling. Everyone was super-hyped. The atmosphere was really great.”
Alabama extended Mboumoua an offer on June 26. The Tide staff has remained in close contact since the initial visit. He was not expected to visit Tuscaloosa this weekend since the official visit date was pushed to December. Mboumoua and his crew made it work, and it was a pleasant surprise for Nick Saban.
“Coach Saban was really excited to see us,” the priority target said. “He said I have a great chance to play my first year there. He said they can really use an edge rusher like me. He was happy to see us and wanted to know when I am going to commit.”

Alabama makes another lasting impression
Steve Mboumoua (wearing Alabama hat) traveled to Tuscaloosa with group.
Mboumoua entered the cigar smoke-filled locker room for the post-game celebration with the Alabama players, coaches and other recruits. He also spent time with Canadian native Isaiah Hastings. They met during the first trip to Tuscaloosa in June.
The four-star said there isn’t a leader at this time. Alabama has made quite the impression after returning to the Capstone. He is expected to return for an official visit on December 8-10. Alabama appears in a good spot less than two months before the Early Signing Period.
“I like Alabama’s Business Marketing program,” he said. “I like their coaching staff and just the overall organization in general. It’s a really good place. I like Coach Freddie Roach. We have a good relationship. I talk to him every week.
“The best part of the visit was just seeing the game. It was my first college game I’ve ever seen in my life. It was nice to see the players, the speed of the game and what it will be like if I go there. It was really great talking with the players.”
Mboumoua mentioned Florida and Mississippi State as other contenders who will receive official visits. Other schools including Auburn, Georgia and Penn State also remain in pursuit. He will likely wait until after official visits before announcing a decision.
