Shane Beamer provides injury update on South Carolina players

The South Carolina football team has been ravaged by injuries to key players this season, and the team’s injury update remains concerning ahead of a game against Jacksonville State.

One player who was injured in last week’s contest against Texas A&M has already been ruled out.

“Trai Jones will not play, he will be out,” head coach Shane Beamer said. “Everyone else is questionable. Those guys that got banged up last week all did a little bit in practice today. Some more than others.”

Beamer had previously described Jones’ injury as the dreaded high-ankle sprain. The veteran offensive lineman was carted off the field during the game against Texas A&M. He did not return.

His absence will be a significant blow to an offensive line that has struggled all year.

One thing that could potentially help is getting back a surefire safety release valve in the passing game. The Gamecocks have been without star receiver Juice Wells for most of the season.

Beamer gave an injury update on him, as well.

“As far as Juice, he’s getting closer and closer,” Beamer said. “I don’t know if he’ll quite be ready for Saturday. I’m not ready to quite rule him out, though.”

One player that Beamer didn’t mention directly who likely falls among the questionable list for this week is tight end Trey Knox. Knox pulled up with a bum hamstring in the second half of the Texas A&M game and couldn’t close the game out.

Still, South Carolina’s getting a bit healthier than it has been most of the year.

Beamer provided a final wrap up to the injury update.

“Trai Jones out, everybody else questionable and we’ll see how the week goes,” he said. “But nobody I could sit here and say, ‘He’s definitely out.’ We’re not to that point yet.”

South Carolina will take on Jacksonville State at noon ET on Saturday, with a broadcast slated for ESPNU.
