Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Former four-star Michigan State commit locks in OV, new offers

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest offer extended out of the transfer portal. We will also discuss current commitments scheduling official visits and more.

Anthony Carrie schedules official visit

Former Michigan State running back commitment Anthony Carrie, of Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day High School, has scheduled a second official visit to East Lansing for the weekend of Dec. 15-17. Carrie decommitted from Michigan State on Nov. 20. He took an official visit to NC State and will also visit Georgia Tech on Dec. 8.

Carrie is ranked a four-star, the No. 357 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 29 running back and the No. 45 recruit in Florida.

Jason’s take:

The new Spartan staff, specifically running backs coach Keith Bhonapha, has done a good job convincing Carrie to take an official visit, as he previously told SpartanMag.com that it may be too late for the new staff. Carrie plans to enroll early at the college of his choice, so he will have a final decision by Dec. 20.

Michigan State will have a good chance to re-land the four-star back, having the last official visit before signing day.

New transfer portal offer

Michigan State extended an offer to transfer portal wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin, as he is transferring from North Texas. The portal receiver is one of the hottest names in the portal, holding offers from Texas A&M, Colorado, UCF, California, South Carolina, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Mississippi, and Penn State.

Maclin tallied 57 receptions, 1,004 yards (3rd in AAC), and 11 touchdowns (2nd in ACC) during the 2023 season. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the younger cousin of former NFL wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

2024 high school offer

Michigan State also offered class of 2024 tight end Wyatt Hook, of San Jose (CA) Homestead High School on Nov. 30. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end is currently committed to Oregon State, as he was offered by former Beaver tight end coach Brian Wozniak.

Hook has been committed to Oregon State since December of 2022. He held offers from Colorado, Washington State, and California before his early commitment. The Beaver commit is ranked a three-star, the No. 1412 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. Hook is also ranked the No. 79 tight end and the No. 107 recruit in California.
