Intel on USC portal target: Houston OT Reuben Unije

On Tuesday, USC offered Houston transfer offensive tackle Reuben Unije, who has spent the last four seasons as a Cougar.

Unije, measures in at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds.

The 2023 season, Unije started in all 11 games he played in, all coming at right tackle. In total, he played 679 snaps, 439 of which on passing plays.

In the 2022 season, Unije appeared in seven games, making two starts, both at right tackle. In all, he played 213 snaps, all coming at right tackle. His 80.9 pass block grade ranked fourth among AAC tackles per PFF (min. 200 snaps)and his 73.1 overall grade ranked sixth among AAC tackles per PFF (min. 200 snaps).

He has played 1,378 snaps in his career.

What to Know

Based on Unije’s social media, USC is the only school to offer him out of the portal so far. This would bode well for the Trojans chances of landing him, but it is likely others will pursue.

I exchanged some messages with Unije briefly in which he confirmed to me he will take a visit to Los Angeles “next week possibly”.

Some of the portal offers have been dished out and communicated by Trojans General Manager Dave Emerick, but this one came directly from offensive line coach Josh Henson.

Looking through Unije’s past recruitment coming out of high school, there was an interesting find.

Unije was recruited by many out of high school while playing at IMG Academy. He took two official visits as a senior, one being to Oklahoma in Lincoln Riley’s first season as head coach of the Sooners. Being that he recruited him, Riley may remember Unije, although he is quite a bit different in size this time around.
