Recruiting scoop: Buzz from the Texas state championship games
ARLINGTON, Texas — A dozen state championships were crowned over the course of four days inside of AT&T Stadium. Among the teams competing were several blue-chip recruits and future Division I standouts.
Here is the latest recruiting intel on several blue-chippers from On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman:
Five-star ATH Terry Bussey – Texas A&M commit
Five-star ATH Terry Bussey played his final game of a storied Timpson (Texas) High career in AT&T Stadium. Both LSU’s Kerry Cooks and A&M’s Ishmael Artiside were on the sidelines watching the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 2-ranked athlete pile up 466 yards and score six times en route to a title.
Bussey will not ink this week. He’s expected to make visits back to Texas A&M. LSU, Alabama and USC are other teams working to get the five-star playmaker on campus in January. Despite being verbally committed to the Aggies, Bussey told On3 it’s a “level playing field” for all the teams being considered. One team that continues to garner a lot of buzz as the process goes on is LSU.
Five-star CB Devin Sanchez
Five-star CB Devin Sanchez is set to reveal his college commitment on January 6 from the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Sanchez, the No. 2 cornerback in America, played in his final game as a junior on Saturday, and now it’s a three-week race until the elite corner makes his decision.
Ohio State continues to trend on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, and that only continues to strengthen as the decision dates. I still like where the Buckeyes sit as January moves closer.
Five-Star Plus+ WR Dakorien Moore
Dakorien Moore is one of the prized members of LSU’s star-studded 2025 class, which continues to trend for a lot of blue-chippers with commitments on the clock. Moore, who pledged to the Tigers right after his 2024 teammate Caden Durham did in August, has made a handful of visits back to Baton Rouge this fall.
Members of the LSU staff were in AT&T for Moore’s final game of his junior season. However, the expectation is that the Tigers will have their hands full. Several schools remain in heavy pursuit of the Five-Star Plus+ receiver, namely Texas and Oregon.
When January arrives, the race for Moore is expected to tighten up.
Three-star S Colin Peacock – 2025
2025 Gunter S Colin Peacock is still garnering new offers and exploring options, but three schools have jumped to the front early with the North Texas junior. Oklahoma, Kansas and Baylor are three teams leading the pack with Peacock, who is putting a big emphasis on relationships right now ahead of junior days beginning next month.
Oklahoma and Baylor are trending for visits in January.
Three-star RB Joseph Dodds – Baylor
New Baylor RB coach Khenon Hall went in-home with 2024 RB Joseph Dodds days after making the move from SMU to Waco. Dodds, a solid commitment to the Bears, is expected to be a part of Baylor’s 2024 recruiting class.
All signs point to Dodds inking with the Bears in a few days.
Three-star IOL Byron Washington
Schools around the country have stopped through DeSoto to see 6-foot-7, 400-pound OL Byron Washington, who just capped his junior season with a state championship right. Texas, TCU, Arizona State, Oregon, Miami and Florida State have all extended offers in the direction of Washington, who noted that Texas, TCU and Florida State have been leading the conversation lately.
Kyle Flood has made a sizable impression on the massive OL. TCU and Florida State have also amped up their efforts of late with Washington, too. The Longhorns have a solid foundation here here with the 2025 OL.
Four-star WR Daylon Singleton – SMU
2025 On3 Industry Ranking four-star WR Daylon Singleton gave a commitment to SMU earlier this fall and is already working out his next visit nearby to the Hilltop. Schools like LSU, Clemson and Texas A&M have not taken their feet off the gas with the talented junior wide receiver.
The Aggies were among the first to offer Singleton. Mike Elko‘s new staff has already made contact and a visit back to College Station is currently in the works.
Four-star RB Deondre Riden
USC, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M continue to lead the conversation with 2025 On3 Industry Ranking four-star RB Deondrae Riden. Last year’s MVP for DeSoto in the state title game, Riden is eyeing visits back to Austin and to Los Angeles. Elko’s new staff at Texas A&M has already been in touch with the four-star back, who is anxious to get a look at the Aggies this spring.
Three-star IOL Jackson Christian
Jackson Christian is one of the most intriguing 2025 OL in the country out of Southeastern Texas. The 2025 interior OL from Port-Neches Grove has picked up early overtures from the Texas, Houston, Texas Tech, among others, and made a game-day visit to Austin during the season.
Kyle Flood has quickly made a strong impression on Christian, who is still hearing from coaches who have offered or are expected to. The Longhorns are among the early favorites with Christian. There is a strong sentiment that the talented 2025 IOL remains in-state.
Baylor expected to make a push for 4-star SMU commits
Talented blue-chip Tyler Chapel Hill backfield tandem of Demetrius Brisbon Jr. and Rickey Stewart were huge splashes in SMU’s 2025 recruiting class and one of the first four-star recruits to jump on board.
Brisbon, a projected safety, and Stewart wrapped up their junior seasons over the weekend. Khenon Hall, who recruited the duo for the Mustangs, has since landed a job at Baylor. The Bears are expected to give SMU some run for the two four-star commitments embedded in its 2025 class.
