Gavin Hoffman ready to enroll at Iowa
After finishing up high school, four-star tight end Gavin Hoffman is getting ready to make the move to Iowa City as an early enrollee with the Hawkeyes this semester. We caught up with the 6-foot-5, 227-pound Hoffman this week to discuss the move, what he looks forward to in beginning his college career this month, and much more.
Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City?
HOFFMAN: Saturday.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most now that it’s almost here?
HOFFMAN: Just looking forward to really get started training and getting better. Also, super excited to meet new people everywhere.
Q: Have you found out who you’re rooming with or know some of the other guys enrolling early?
HOFFMAN: Yeah. I think I’ll either be rooming with Josh Janowski or Tripp Woody, the other recruits coming in early. I’ve gotten to know them both a little bit.
Q: What was your reaction when you heard Luke Lachey was returning for his senior year?
HOFFMAN: I am really excited to learn from Luke and am glad he is coming back since he is a veteran.
Q: Did you grow up a Chiefs fan following Travis Kelce I would imagine? What was it like seeing all the Iowa tight ends kind of take over the NFL this season?
HOFFMAN: Yeah, I’ve grown up watching Kelce, so he’s been my all-time favorite as a Chiefs fan but seeing all these guys from Iowa balling out is very cool knowing that’s what my dream is.
Q: Why did you originally decide to enroll early for college?
HOFFMAN: Honestly, once I started seeing more people doing it, I became interested in it and decided it would just be beneficial to start early.
Q: What is your mindset going in? Are you hoping to play some your freshman year?
HOFFMAN: My goal is to try to play next season. I am really working hard towards that.
Q: Where is your height and weight at coming in?
HOFFMAN: I am 6’ 5 1/2″ and 227 pounds right now.
Q: Have you found out what number you will be wearing? Any preference?
HOFFMAN: I don’t know my number and I have no preference. Just ready to work.
Q: Last question – when you look back at your decision, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?
HOFFMAN: Personally, it really felt like home after my official visit. It sort of felt like my hometown and I really love the coaching staff. There are a lot of veterans on the coaching staff that have been doing this for a long time including the strength coach. Then obviously, the reputation they have with their tight ends and just the way they produce guys to the next level, which is my ultimate goal.
Hoffman, who had 22 catches for 542 yards and six touchdowns as a senior, verbally committed to Iowa on June 27, 2023, choosing the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Arizona State, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Purdue, Texas Tech, and Marshall, among others.
Hoffman is a four-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 90.34.
