Top target Vernell Brown III says Ohio State ‘definitely at the top of the list’ after latest visit

The Ohio State class of 2025 recruiting picture is becoming a bit more clear as we move further into spring and closer into the summer when many top prospects will make their decisions.

One of the top players on the Buckeyes’ board for this cycle is Orlando (FL) Jones wide receiver Vernell “Trey” Brown III, who Brian Hartline has been pursuing for quite some time. Brown was back in Columbus on Tuesday for a visit and to take in practice, and enjoyed his time on campus.

“It went really well,” Brown told Lettermen Row about the visit. “I got to watch practice, meet with both Coach Day and Coach Hartline, and did some of the typical spring visit stuff.”

Watching the wide receiver group work in practice, as well as spending some one-on-one time with the coaches was extremely valuable in this latest visit for Brown.

“The receivers looked really good in practice,” he said. “Their practice was run very efficiently.

“I talked to both Coach Day and Coach Hart. They both reiterated how much they would like me to be in the 2025 class and what makes me different from the guys in the already-stacked wide receiver room.”

After this visit, where does Ohio State stand for Brown?

“They are definitely at the top of the list, along with a few others,” he shared. “I didn’t set an official visit date just yet, but Ohio State will definitely be getting one from me.”

As far as a plan for his recruitment, Brown is going to make official visits in the summer and then will hopefully come to a decision. He spoke about that process, as well as what he’s looking for in his future home.

“The plan is to make my commitment in July or August,” he explained. “The biggest things to me in making my decision are the people in the building, development on and off the field, the system, and ultimately what my family and I feel is the best option for me.”

Brown is a 4-star, the No. 93 overall player, the No. 10 wide receiver, and the No. 11 prospect in Florida for 2025 per the On3 Industry Rankings. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) gives Ohio State an 86.5% chance to land Brown’s commitment.
