5-star SG Jasper Johnson sets official visits to Alabama, Illinois

Jasper Johnson, a five-star shooting guard in the 2025 class, has scheduled two official visits, a source told On3: Alabama on July 22-23 and Illinois on July 24-25.

The 6-foot-4 rising senior is ranked as the No. 10 overall player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.

Johnson, who spent his junior season at powerhouse Link Academy (MO), recently visited Mark Pope and the Wildcats earlier this week. He’s also taken official visits to Auburn and North Carolina this year.

ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla is a fan of Jasper Johnson. “The thing that stands out about him is that he scores the ball easily,” Fraschilla said. “I was really impressed with his outside shooting and ability to get to the basket and also be very creative when he gets to the basket. His strength is putting the ball in the basket and every team needs that kind of player.” Johnson was named to the USA Basketball Junior National U18 Team in May 2024. His father, Dennis, is a former all-SEC defensive end at Kentucky and former NFL player. Jasper is originally from Lexington, Kentucky, but moved to Link Academy to play high school basketball ahead of the 2023 season.

“Jasper Johnson is a lefty with nice size and good length. What he does is shoot the ball. Johnson has deep range that extends well beyond the three-point arc, and he is at he’s best in catch and shoot or with one/two dribble pull-ups. Would like to see Johnson tighten the handle, can struggle once he is in the paint, especially going right. Lacks blow by burst off the bounce at this point but he is a good straight line athlete with a head of steam.. Has a crafty lay-up package around the basket, especially with the left hand. Solid explosion with a running start. Can get beat off the bounce in the open floor on defense. Will use both hands to dribble, but most of the time it comes back to his left hand. The range extends well beyond the three-point arc. Plays with a lot of confidence. Can get you into sets.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
