Recruiting intel on On3 Industry Ranking 5-star safety Jonah Williams

As Justin Wells previously reported on Inside Texas, Texas coaches well get five-star safety Jonah Williams on a long-awaited return visit.

This has been a tough one to cover because I have a good source on this recruitment that has been bullish on Texas since the early spring but that intel hasn’t necessarily aligned with the fact pattern. Texas didn’t even receive an official visit, after all.

When I talked to Williams’ parents in Nashville and gently pressed on the topic, they made it sound like Texas is right there with every other school. Again, that didn’t necessarily align with the fact pattern, but now that was coming from his (enjoyable) parents, Annie and Billy.

And then I see Oregon is pushing hard hard. So what to expect? Is Texas really in this recruitment?

My source indicates this week Galveston (Texas) Ball safety has been in repeated contact with new Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle. Many felt A&M was the team to beat for Jonah partly on the strength of the baseball program.

Another bonus, his brother Nick Williams (2012 2nd Rd pick of the Texas Rangers), lives in Austin and has a few unique ties to former Texas football players.

One thing that has kept my head on a swivel with Texas is Jonah has never seemed to be in a hurry to make a decision. That still appears to be the case. We know he’s a major priority for Steve Sarkisian and Blake Gideon, however the staff is very aware he could go the baseball route. You have to like that Kade Phillips is already in the class, though that offer may need to become a corner offer when it’s all said and done. That’s another bridge to cross at another time.

Based on what I hear, this is between Texas, USC, and A&M. But I never would have guessed 2026 running back Tradarian Ball was about to commit to Oregon, so I’m not ruling out the Ducks even though they make zero sense from a baseball standpoint.

Like I’ve said for months and months, this is a live recruitment. We’ll know more after the visit.
