ANALYSIS: Comparing Miami Hurricanes QB commit Judd Anderson to country’s top quarterback prospects

ANALYSIS: Comparing Miami Hurricanes QB commit Judd Anderson to country’s top quarterback prospects

Miami quarterback commit Judd Anderson may only be listed as a three-star quarterback by the four major recruiting rankings databases, but the 6-foot-6, 217-pound 2024 Hurricane pledge’s senior season stats have rivaled some of the country’s top listed quarterbacks.

Anderson’s senior season was somewhat muddy, beginning at Jones County High School (Gray, Ga.) before transferring just south to Warner Robins early in the year, but he helped lead the Demons to nine wins in their next 11 games, which included a seven-game win streak in which the offense scored fewer than four touchdowns only once. Warner Robins also won two playoff games before being knocked out by Georgia powerhouse Creekside in the third round, and Anderson posted 267 passing yards and 2 touchdowns on 24-of-35 passing in a 43-28 win over his former school late in the season.

Anderson recorded 2,815 yards, 29 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with a 75% completion percentage in 12 games at Warner Robins after an in-season transfer. He transferred to Warner Robins after posting 1,776 yards, 15 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 57% completion percentage last season. That compares to 2,369 yards, 24 touchdowns, 1 interception and a 76% completion percentage from No. 1 overall quarterback Julian Sayin (Alabama commit), 2,533 yards, 34 touchdowns, 1 interception and a 62% completion percentage from No. 2 overall quarterback Dylan Raiola (Georgia commit).

No. 4 overall quarterback Air Noland, a former top Miami recruit who ultimately committed to Ohio State, finished his season with 2140 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, 9 interceptions and a 67% completion percentage. All three quarterbacks’ teams have been eliminated from the postseason.

That also compares to 2,663 yards, 39 touchdowns, 6 interceptions and a 71% completion percentage from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna three-star quarterback Cedrick Bailey, the quarterback for No. 1 overall prospect Jeremiah Smith and four-star Miami receiver commit Joshisa Trader. The Hurricanes recently extended an offer to Bailey, indicating Miami could add a second high school quarterback in this year’s recruiting class. Bailey is still competing in the high school playoffs, so his stats are not final.

Anderson’s On3 rankings grade has climbed to an 88 overall since the start of the year, bringing him just two points shy of being listed as a four-star recruit, but his grade in the On3 Industry Ranking, which takes the weighted averages of the four major recruiting databases, has improved nominally. However, On3 Scouting and Rankings Assistant Cody Bellaire has seen Anderson take steps forward.

“Honestly, he’s been pretty solid,” Bellaire said. “(He’s) still got good arm action and the ability to get the ball out accurately with some zip. Not super mobile still, which is expected, but he has some quality ‘WOW’ throws where he stands in the pocket and takes a shot.”

CaneSport’s Take

Anderson has still shown the signs of ultimately becoming a high-floor prospect with his size, arm talent and pocket presence, and his steady improvement year-over-year suggests he’ll continue to improve once he arrives on campus. He’s also become far more consistent this year, but it appears Anderson will benefit greatly from the opportunity to sit for at least one season before seeing the playing field, which has also factored into his recruiting ranking.

Anderson may not be quite as game-ready yet or be as high-floor of a prospect as the Sayins or Raiolas or Nolands of the world, but his production as a senior indicates his ceiling is just as high if not higher than some of the country’s top QB recruits.
