Analysis: What is Georgia getting in WR Landon Roldan?

Analysis: What is Georgia getting in WR Landon Roldan?

Georgia quickly identified and pursued Bogart (Ga.) North Oconee wide receiver Landon Roldan. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver is a star at nearby North Oconee High School.

Roldan camped at Georgia at the end of May and earned an offer by the middle of June. He put down a low 4.4 40-yard dash and his recruitment began to take off. He has now committed to the hometown Bulldogs.

Roldan joins a growing receiver class that features three four-star caliber players in Talyn Taylor, Thomas Blackshear and Tyler Williams.

On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power joined DawgsHQ in breaking down Roldan’s abilities and potential impact at Georgia.

On3 expert dives in on Landon Roldan

“Landon Roldan is a fun evaluation. He’s a guy that got on the radar at camp at Georgia. Roldan ran in the low 4.4s on the laser. He has pretty good size. He had a productive junior year. Landon Roldan checks a lot of boxes.

He’s a guy that you probably didn’t know the speed on him until he got to camp. I think it’s really encouraging of what he showed this summer. The biggest thing with him is going to be carrying that speed over to the field consistently on Friday nights.

You see it at times but there are times when you’d like to see him play faster. He has that speed in him. He’s a guy that Georgia puts a priority on with camping and they value their in-person evaluations. That dates back to Kirby Smart and his days at Alabama.

That was always a big piece of their evaluations. With Landon Roldan, you can trust the track record of the staff, evaluate guys, and find gems. Ladd McConkey was a great example of that in the past. I think you have to trust this evaluation. He’s a guy that has several positive markers.”

DawgsHQ Thoughts

Roldan has a trait that can make up for a lot: speed.

Roldan has the kind of speed that allows him to get the ball in his hands and turns short gains into long ones. He’s a player who will scare defenses and create things for other people as secondaries try and re-calibrate and regain leverage.

Roldan can also track the football in the air like a center fielder. He just runs to a spot and has that knack for timing where to be. He’s a high-level baseball player as well.

Roldan is not a small wide receiver. He’s a solid 6-foot-1 and could easily add weight once he fully focuses on football.

Roldan spends a lot of his summer days standing on a baseball field losing some of the weight he adds in the weight room.
