Auburn’s Ten Most Wanted
Welcome to the original Auburn Ten Most Wanted. Who are Auburn’s top recruiting targets?
These lists are extremely fluid. In recruiting, things can change on both sides in an instant. And, we are now under a week away from the early signing period starting Dec. 20.
Finally … please remember, this is our list based on who we believe the Tigers covet the most and have the best shot with.
The Tigers currently have 20 commits and the No. 11 ranked class in the country.
Tier 1
— DL, LJ McCray, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland: McCray, a 5-star Florida defensive line commit, comes in at No. 1 in our list. He is highly wanted by the Tigers and they believe they have a shot to flip him. Auburn is in need of defensive line help and believes McCray is ready to be a major contributor as soon as he gets to college. Of all portal and high school defensive linemen, McCray is priority No. 1.
— WR, Ryan Williams, Saraland (Ala.): Williams, a 5-star Alabama wide receiver commit, is the top priority remaining at receiver. Auburn would pass on nearly any transfer portal receiver to bring in Williams. He would complete the “Freeze-5” that has been thrown around by fans and Auburn players. Alabama feels confident in holding his commitment while Auburn has confidence in a flip. The Tigers will do whatever they can to try and flip Williams from the Tide.
— DL, Amaris Williams, Clinton, (NC): Williams, a 4-star Florida defensive line commit, was just on campus over the weekend. We believe Williams is one of the most obtainable options to close out the 2024 class as of today. Therefore, he comes in at No. 3 on this list. Williams remains committed to Florida, but is probably more likely to flip at this time. Auburn and Georgia are the main contenders with Auburn potentially pulling away.
— OL, Coen Echols, Katy (Tex.): Echols, a 4-star versatile offensive line prospect, is probably the top high school offensive lineman on the board. He recently decommitted from Texas A&M and is scheduled to visit LSU over the weekend. Auburn is thought to be the favorite for Echols, but this one is far from over. Auburn will have to fight, and is willing to do so, to get Echols in the boat.
— Saf., KJ Bolden, Buford (Ga.): Bolden, a 5-star Florida State commit, is highly wanted by Auburn. He is at a position of need, but probably not as high as offensive line for the 2024 class. Also, Florida State seems confident in holding on as of today. Auburn continues to battle and will not relent in this recruitment. The Tigers believe Bolden makes a year-one impact at safety should he sign with them.
— OL, Fernando Carmona, San Jose State: Of the current transfer targets that we know about, it seems that Carmona is the top target. Auburn wants someone capable of pass protecting as a tackle and Carmona has been good in that area. We still believe that Carmona is below the high school targets when it comes to who is “most wanted.” However, he is a tier-one want and need, no doubt.
— TE, Jaleel Skinner, Miami: Skinner also belongs in tier one as Auburn is not expected to bring in a high school tight end. Therefore, all the focus is on a portal tight end. Skinner appears to be the top target at this time. Auburn will have to re-tool its entire tight end room after the 2024 season. Skinner, who has three years to play, would be a big addition to help keep experience in that room moving forward.
— DL, Joey Slackman, Penn: Slackman, a highly sought after portal defensive lineman, is visiting Auburn over the weekend. According to our intel, Slackman is one of two portal defensive linemen the Tigers would love to land. As of right now Slackman seems to be the most likely of the two to land with Auburn. We will know more about him as the weekend plays out, but he is high on the list for sure.
Tier 2
— OT, Favour Edwin, McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian: Edwin, a 3-star offensive tackle, continues to be a top offensive line target for the Tigers. Things have taken a turn, however, as Alabama seems to have the most confidence at this time. Auburn continues to battle and still has a shot, but we think Alabama has seized the momentum here. He is still highly wanted by Auburn.
— DL, Derrick Harmon, Michigan State: There is not much known about Harmon. He visited Auburn and left without interviewing. We know that he is wanted by the Tigers and is the second of the two defensive linemen mentioned above with Slackman. He is lower on the list as there are other schools heavily involved such as Ohio State.
