Chris Ewald excited off Miami OV with decision upcoming, says he felt the love from the Hurricanes

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star cornerback Chris Ewald Jr. knew his Miami official visit would play a particularly large role in how he views the school with a commitment coming June 27. And the Hurricanes knocked his Friday-to-Sunday trip out of the park.

“It was a great official visit,” said Ewald, who was hosted by Daryl Porter, Jr. “A great last impression Miami left off before I make my final decision.”

He’ll announce that decision June 27.

“The main thing (I felt) was the love that they’ve consistently shown (at Miami),” Ewald said. “I really appreciate them for that.”

The No. 162 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 20 cornerback in the 2025 cycle is set to choose between Miami and Georgia, but the Hurricanes helped their chances in a major way during this weekend’s visit. Ewald has long been one of Miami’s top cornerback priorities and has visited Coral Gables more than any other program, but his experience this weekend was different than the 10 other unofficial trips he’s taken to campus.

Ewald said he spent a lot of time with all the coaches including on the offensive side.

“Every coach was interacting with the players,” he said, adding that his parents also left impressed.

“They loved it, were here for me,” he said. “They’re making sure I’m happy – if I’m happy, they’re happy. They were just supporting.”

Ewald said visiting Mario Cristobal’s house was a highlight, and said coaches stressed to “see it for yourself.”

Ewald will also visit Georgia next weekend, although the Hurricanes are in a good position for the 5-foot-11, 165-pound cornerback after this trip. Ewald will be looking for similar things during his Georgia visit he did this weekend, but he said his Miami trip was more about spending additional time around the coaching staff and looking inside at how the Hurricanes plan to develop him into an NFL draft pick.

“I’m not looking for anything specific (heading into the Georgia visit),” Ewald said. “Just one final impression before I make my decision. I’m not trying to compare or contrast the two (Miami and UGA), I’m just going in there with an open mind.”

CaneSport’s Take

Ewald is a prospect Miami NEEDS to land in this cycle considering the lack of competition from fellow Florida schools and Chaminade-Madonna’s proximity to campus, not to mention the pipeline the Hurricanes have started building between Coral Gables and some of South Florida’s premiere high school programs. It would be hard to justify losing Ewald to Georgia despite the Bulldogs getting his final visit before his announcement, but I really like the position Miami is in after this weekend.
