Coach Speak: 2025 Mississippi State commit and On3 four-star quarterback Kamario Taylor
2025 Mississippi State commitment and Noxubee County quarterback Kamario Taylor has been one of the most talked-about offensive players in the Magnolia State this season and for good reason.
The 6-foot-4 and 180-pound Taylor has thrown for over 2,000 yards with 28 touchdown passes this season, and has directed the Tigers’ offense with full command. But it was several years ago when Noxubee County head coach Teddy Young believe Taylor could be something special.
“Actually, it was when he was playing pee-wee football,” recalled Young. “That is when I first noticed him. We had heard a lot of good things about him so we moved him up early to middle school football. We knew then he could be special and it is showing now. He just understands football. He is a natural leader and the kids here all look up to him.”
A year ago, Taylor started showing flashes of his potential for Noxubee County. An injury early in his sophomore campaign delayed Taylor a bit from taking over but he eventually returned to action and helped lead Noxubee County to the Class 3A state championship game.
“He got hurt early in the season last year,” Young said. “Once he was healthy, we eased him back into the offense. He was splitting time with another quarterback and even then, he was excited for our other quarterback and was cheering him on until it was his time to take over.”
And past the midway point of his junior season, Young has watched Taylor develop into a well-rounded quarterback. Earlier this week, Taylor also debuted in the On3 rankings for the Class of 2025 and did so as a four-star prospect.
“He has done a great job of taking on that leadership role,” added Young. “He is putting up great numbers and our success would not be possible without him. He is able to understand the defense well and I am proud of the strides he has made this season.
“The biggest stride he has taken from last year is understanding what the defense wants to do with their front seven. He has a big knowledge of the game and he has improved from the mental side of the game.”
Taylor saw his recruiting process go to another level during the summer camp scene. He collected his first Power 5 offer from Mississippi State back in June and has added offers from Vanderbilt and Southern Miss since. But over the past few months, Taylor became more and more comfortable with the Bulldogs’ staff and that led to last week’s commitment to the Maroon and White.
“He is always up there for their home games,” mentioned Young. “When he gets back he always has a great feeling about State. They always showed him a lot of interest so I figured it would not be long before he committed to them. He just felt at home there.”
Of course, Taylor still has a lot of time left to do special things at the prep level. But once he reaches the next level, his head coach believes he has the talent and tools to adjust to various offensive systems.
“He can play in all types of offenses,” Young noted. “He is good at being in an offense that can push the ball down the field. He has a big arm but he can also make the short and intermediate throws. He can use his athleticism and get things done with his legs too, when he has to.”
