Early 2024 spring height, weight for every Notre Dame football player on defense
The official Notre Dame football website updated its roster for 2024 winter workouts and the spring semester this week. Incoming freshmen early enrollees and transfer portal additions are on the roster without numbers. Returning Notre Dame players have numbers and new height and weight information.
The following are the current heights and weights of every Notre Dame player on defense. The numbers in parenthesis indicate how much weight each player gained (+) or lost (-). Transfer portal player weights are compared to the 2023 rosters of their previous teams. Freshmen weights are compared to their On3 Recruiting database information.
Freshmen and transfer additions arriving in South Bend this summer are not yet listed on the official Notre Dame roster. For example, Rod Heard II of Northwestern will not be found in the safeties section below.
Cornerbacks
Graduate student Clarence Lewis: 6-0, 198 (-4)
Graduate student Jordan Clark 5-10, 179 (-6)
Senior Chance Tucker: 6-0, 185 (+1)
Junior Benjamin Morrison: 6-0, 183 (-2)
Junior Jaden Mickey: 6-0, 174 (-7)
Sophomore Christian Gray: 6-0, 185 (-4)
Blue & Gold says: Clark is about 15 pounds lighter than Thomas Harper was as Notre Dame’s primary nickel corner in 2023. As a throwback, though, TaRiq Bracy was 177 pounds. The job can be done as a sub-180 nickel. Bracy proved that.
Safeties
Graduate student Xavier Watts: 6-0, 202 (n/a)
Senior Marty Auer: 6-0, 203 (+3)
Sophomore Adon Shuler: 6-0, 200 (-8)
Sophomore Ben Minich: 6-0, 195 (+2)
Sophomore Luke Talich: 6-4, 210 (+12)
Blue & Gold says: Watch out for Talich. The preferred walk-on’s knock was size, but now he’s getting better. He’s talented, and Notre Dame is somewhat devoid of safeties, especially in spring ball. He’s going to be somebody to watch this year.
Linebackers
Graduate student Jack Kiser: 6-2, 227 (-5)
Junior Jaylen Sneed: 6-1, 219 (-4)
Sophomore Jaiden Ausberry: 6-0, 225 (+1)
Sophomore Preston Zinter: 6-2, 234 (+2)
Sophomore Drayk Bowen: 6-2, 244 (+10)
Freshman Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa: 6-3, 233 (-2)
Blue & Gold: Bowen is putting on size. Avenues are opening for him to get quite a bit of playing time in 2024. He’s the kind of guy to sprint — or lift — his way through openings like that.
Defensive linemen
Graduate student Rylie Mills: 6-5, 305 (-1)
Graduate student Howard Cross III: 6-1, 277 (-11)
Graduate student Jordan Botelho: 6-3, 258 (-6)
Graduate student RJ Oben: 6-3, 263 (+3)
Senior Jason Onye: 6-5, 286 (-8)
Junior Tyson Ford: 6-4, 277 (+3)
Junior Aiden Gobaira: 6-5, 250 (-6)
Junior Junior Tuihalamaka: 6-2, 249 (-5)
Junior Donovan Hinish: 6-2, 270 (-10)
Junior Joshua Burnham: 6-4, 242 (-6)
Sophomore Devan Houstan: 6-4, 284 (-8)
Sophomore Armel Mukam: 6-3, 281 (+1)
Sophomore Boubacar Traore: 6-4, 236 (-1)
Sophmore Brenan Vernon: 6-4, 274 (+15)
Sophomore Kahanu Kia: 6-2, 219 (+2)
Freshman Bryce Young: 6-7, 241 (-4)
Freshman Loghan Thomas: 6-4, 196 (-14)
Freshman Sean Sevillano Jr.: 6-1, 339 (+14)
Freshman Cole Mullins: 6-4, 239 (-1)
Blue & Gold says: Two things here. Vernon seems to be taking his development seriously. That’s a big gain. And Sevillano is a massive human being. A 339-pound freshman defensive tackle? My goodness. Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington has to be excited about that one.
