EDGE Herbert Scroggins high on Miami ahead of weekend official visit: “They stand as one of my top schools”
Benedictine Military School (Savannah, Ga.) outside linebacker/edge Herbert “Third” Scroggins is set to visit Miami this weekend for his final official visit with the Hurricanes this summer.
After getting a glimpse of the program earlier this year, he is ready to get an in-depth look at what the Canes have to offer.
“I feel good about it, and I just can’t wait to get back down there,” Scroggins told CaneSport. “I really want to see all that Miami has to offer.”
Scroggins, who was on campus for the Hurricanes spring game in April, says communication has been at an all-time high leading up to his official visit.
“It’s been great, and they text me every single day,” Scroggins said. “Whether it be in the AM or PM, the relationship has grown day by day, and they’ve been keeping up with me a lot.”
Miami’s message?
“They’re telling me that I’m their guy and how they really want me,” Scroggins explained. “They stand as one of my top schools.”
Along with Miami, near the top of Scroggins list of top programs are Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Auburn.
After taking official visits to each of his top three programs with his trip to Coral Gables this upcoming weekend, Scroggins has a good idea of what will separate one program from the rest.
“Just show me how I would fit into their defenses and education,” Scroggins explains. “I’m very big on education, so it’ll come down to education and how I can develop as an EDGE rusher in the program.”
Scroggins talks his relationship with Elijah Griffin and Walter Mathis
Scroggins isn’t the only defensive lineman the Hurricanes are recruiting from the Peach State, with Five-Star DL Elijah Griffin and three-star DL Walter Mathis also being top targets for Miami this cycle.
The trio are good friends, and Scroggins had the chance to speak with both Mathis and Griffin about how their official visits to Miami went earlier this summer.
“We’re very close friends, and we train all together,” Scroggins said. “I talked to Elijah about his official visit, and he said it was fun and great. They’re trying to get a little three-package deal, you could say.”
CaneSport’s take
With consistent communication and a clear message, Miami has made its way toward the top of Scroggins’ list and will have the chance to solidify itself as the team to beat in his recruitment after this weekend.
