Elite Texas WR May be Back at USC for UCLA Game

Elite Texas WR May be Back at USC for UCLA Game

WeAreSC submitted a USC prediction for 4-Star WR Dre’lon Miller in May, when it appeared the Trojans would get the final visit before his Summer commitment announcement. We learned about plans for his late Texas A&M unofficial visit in late June. That visit came a week after his USC official visit.

Prior to his USC official visit sources told us it had been a USC vs LSU battle for quite some time, but Miami also got a June official visit.

The Texas A&M visit led to him and great friend LB Tyanthony Smith verbally committing to the Aggies at the end of June.

But Miller announced his decommitment on Monday Oct. 17 via social media.

“First, I want to thank my family and friends for being my support, especially my mom. She is my heart. My dad has pushed me my entire life. I love where I am from and hopefully everyone respects who I am and what I am doing but I just feel it is in my best interest to reopen my recruitment. I love Texas A&M but I need time to process what my next move is. This is a life decision.

“This is a family decision not just my decision. Please respect this decision and I ask that no one reach out as my family and I are spending time with each other to make sure
we move in the right direction for my future.”

USC vs UCLA Game Visit?

Since announcing his decommitment, USC, LSU, Ole Miss and Colorado have emerged as legitimate options for Miller. He’s already visited LSU, Colorado and Ole Miss, but per his father Chris Miller, a trip back to Los Angeles could happen next week.

Miller and his family would be in town for the USC vs UCLA game.

“We’re trying to figure out now if we’ll be able to make it to the game next week,” said Miller.

Although there were three LSU predictions submitted on October 20, Miller’s final school choice likely won’t be known until the December signing period. We’re told if Miller doesn’t make to USC next weekend, he’ll try for an other date.

USC, LSU & Colorado

USC and LSU never stopped pursuing Miller. He shared reasons why USC was and continues to be one of his top options.

“Coach Riley, 100%. With just what he does and what he showed me how he plans to use me and just his great offensive mind. It was all very impressive to me.”

“He just showed how’d they get the best out me and hopefully in three years, he’d have me in the NFL.”

Miller took his USC official visits June 16-18.

“I had an amazing time,” Miller said first. “You know, it just makes my decision so much harder and more stressful. I really had a great time out here and enjoyed it all a lot. Just the relationships I have with all the coaches that recruited me and the ball after life.”

He explained what the biggest appeal of his Trojans visit was.

“Coach Riley, 100%. With just what he does and what he showed me how he plans to use me and just his great offensive mind. It was all very impressive to me.”

“He just showed how’d they get the best out me and hopefully in three years, he’d have me in the NFL.”

The USC degree and community is a massive added perk

On the official visits, USC has Chris Carter delivering the presentation of what USC has to offer in their degree and what perks are available after graduating.

Miller spoke about the presentation and his thoughts on what he learned.

“That was amazing to see all about how far the USC degree can take you. And just to see all the players that have done it just to come back and tell that story, it meant a lot.”

When Miller was just 11 days away from announcing his commitment, he shared the main reasons would be if he were to pick them.

“I would say the chances and the opportunities out here and the football of course. The relationships too… and it’s California.”

Current 2024 Recruiting Class

As of November 11, the 17 2024 USC verbal commits include, TE Walter Matthews, WR Ryan Pellum, OLB Elijah Newby, WR Xavier Jordan, EDGE Kameryn Fountain, TE Joey Olsen, Safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr., OL Makai Saina, Safety Marquis Gallegos, RB Bryan Jackson, OT Justin Tauanuu, OL Hayden Treter, CB Marcelles Williams, CB Braylon Conley, DL Deyvid Palepale, CB Isaiah Rubin and OL Jason Zandamela.

In mid June, there were more than 20 prospects favoring the Trojans in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. A good portion of them visited USC in the spring and/or and scheduled official visit. At one point USC was set to host 35 official visitors in May and June, but 30 actually took the visits.

USC finished the 2023 class ranked inside the top-10 and Lincoln Riley and staff have started off on the right foot with an opportunity to repeat that feat in the 2024 class.
