Elite TX WR Andrew Marsh Making Significant Third USC Visit Saturday
For those of who’ve covered recruiting for a significant number years, we often tell our readers to watch what top recruits do more than what they say. While that approach seems to be extra relevant late in a recruiting process, it matters greatly how often a top prospect visits a school.
Elite 2025 Katy (TX) WR Andrew Marsh visited USC twice earlier this year. Marsh, the No. 19 overall 2025 prospects and No. 5 ranked wide receiver, first visited USC in April, returned in June for a weekend visit and plans to be back Saturday when the Trojans face UCLA at the Coliseum.
In June Marsh and several family members were on campus multiple days. The second visit made an enormous impact on Marsh and his mother Eleanor Marsh. So, the visit this weekend was expected to happen at some point and we expect USC to among the short list of top schools until the end of the recruiting process.
Previous visit and the connection in LA
In June Marsh was able to get a good look at the facilities and spend time with various members of the USC staff. Since that time, his relationship with USC has remained strong.
“I really like USC”, he said. I love the people there and I had a visit up there not too long ago, and my whole family was there. It was a really good visit because they are really personable, easy to talk to and really just had a good time getting to know all of them. The coaches, the staff and really just everybody that works there.”
“I have good contact with them. They’ll just hit up my coach, tell me to call them, so we have pretty good connection and contact with each other.”
The presence and abilities of Lincoln Riley are on full display for Marsh
It is pretty easy to notice when Lincoln Riley has one of “his guys”. There are certain recruits who describe the way they are getting recruited that shows you they are a top target. And often times when Riley finds a guy he really wants, there’s not much he won’t do to secure them.
“They showed me for one that they’ll always have good quarterbacks coming in and out. So that’s really a great thing to have in your back pocket. And they just showed me that they really want me there and that they’re willing to put in the effort to get me there.”
“They tell me that I’m a big priority for them, a big prospect and that they really want me.”
As a 2025 prospect, there’s still a lot of time on the recruiting clock for Marsh, but Riley has really shown him love from the start. And Riley has put in that effort already.
“The last time I was up here, we actually had a really good conversation. We had like a three hour conversation, just me, him, and my mom. And so I got to know him really well and really learned a lot about him, how he coaches and I really like his style.”
The culture of USC is standing out to Marsh
Culture is often times a big factor for recruits. This goes for Marsh, who is really looking for a family atmosphere to call home. And he thinks USC has that for him.
“I really like that they’re really family orientated there. And I mean, family is huge for me. Like, at the end of the day, that’s what I fall back on and those are my people. So the fact that he could take his time to make sure [my mom] is good and everybody else is good and really just take that family approach really just says something.”
THE ONE
We haven’t covered every position yet for 2025, but we have identified the top prospects at each position we’ve seen in person. Marsh is THE ONE for us at receiver.
WeAreSC had an opportunity to meet Marsh and his mother in June. They were in town for the Elite 11 Finals and OT7 Finals. Marsh and his mom were decked out in USC gear that evening. They had visited the Trojans earlier that day and were extremely impressed.
At that time both Marsh’s said they’d be back for another visit.
“What’s not to like,” Marsh said. “Great visit, coaches and atmosphere. To top it off, I got a chance to experience it with my family. I like the whole vibe my family and I got hanging out with the coaches and their families. My mom and sisters said they we very welcoming to them plus my nieces had fun with their kids.
“On Friday we had a chance to see the campus. I was very surprised everything was so close and in its own village. Sitting with the coaches and discussing plays was good. Then we met with Coach (Lincoln) Riley and he was so easy to talk to. We laughed a lot and talked sports of course. So yes, it was a very good visit. I will be back.”
Combo of Jordan Addison + Dorian Singer
As I say each time I provide my brief and simple evaluation of high school football players, I’m a total speed dater with this. I’ll move on fairly quickly if I’m not seeing much while watching a player from the get go. It doesn’t require plays being made to do this either, just looking for certain movements. Even if it’s seen on a basketball court or elsewhere. Pete Carroll knew he wanted 2002 Minnesota Tight End prospect Dominique Byrd after seeing play point guard for the Breck basketball team.
Perhaps if I don’t know who I’m looking at first, I’ll figure out height and weight. As much as it bothers me how uber focused rankings are on measurements, they matter in most cases. That’s just reality as much as we fight it. While I’m not claiming guys who don’t meet the preferred NFL Algorithms can’t become high end NFL Draft picks, it’s not the norm. There, I said it.
With Andrew T Marsh, you can run anything from deep routes, wide receiver tunnel screens, bubble screens (eek), fade balls, jump balls, back shoulder balls, anything requiring exceptional athleticism, body control and sure hands. Marsh’s change of direction is fluid and effortless in his Hudl highlights.
Marsh possesses better than average speed and pass catching ability. We’d put him in the Elite pass catcher category, but Marsh will also outrun defenders and run impressive routes. He’s a complete receiver from our perspective.
Marsh is also an extremely polished receiver, but hasn’t come close to reaching his ceiling. He hasn’t hit his ceiling physically either. Marsh will easily add weight, strength and become more explosive as time progresses. Not a whole lot to dislike about Marsh. His offer lists and No. 19 overall ranking nationally indicates that’s the prevailing opinion.
Others in contention
You can expect Lincoln Riley and USC to be after Marsh for the entirety of the 2025 cycle, but there will be heavy competition.
Regional powers such as Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, and others will be heavy factors in his recruitment. Schools Michigan and Ohio State are surely going to be involved in the long run as well.
