Florida defeats Georgia, will face Alabama in SEC Tournament quarterfinals
The field is set for the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, as No. 6 seed Florida has defeated No. 11 seed Georgia in round two to close out the evening in Nashville.
Winning 85-80, the Gators shot 43.8% from the field and 35.3% from three to earn the win, five players finishing in double figures for Todd Golden’s squad. Walter Clayton Jr. led the way with 22 points, followed by Will Richard and Tyrese Samuel with 17 points apiece, then Zyon Pullin with 11 and Alex Condon with 10.
With the win, Florida advances to face No. 3 seed Alabama in the quarterfinals to set up a potential semifinal matchup against No. 2 seed Kentucky on Saturday. But first, the Wildcats will take on the No. 7 seed Texas A&M Aggies on Friday to close out the bottom half of the bracket.
On the other, No. 1 seed Tennessee will take on No. 9 Mississippi State to open the day on Friday at 1 p.m. ET, followed by No. 4 Auburn vs. No. 5 South Carolina in the late afternoon before the evening schedule.
Eight teams remain in the field here inside Bridgestone Arena, cut down to four this time tomorrow evening.
