Florida State in ‘tier one’ for Texas A&M 5-star WR commit Cam Coleman
All eyes are on Texas A&M’s recruiting class following the firing of head coach Jimbo Fisher.
The Aggies currently hold a top-10 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking, but multiple high-profile programs are lurking and trying to flip the top-ranked commits currently slated to head to College Station next season.
That list includes Phenix City (Ala.) Central five-star wide receiver and top-ranked commit Cam Coleman, the No. 12 prospect and No. 3 wideout in the 2024 cycle, per the On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-3.5, 185-pounder has taken plenty of visits this fall despite his pledge to the Aggies.
“I’m still committed to A&M, but my recruitment is still open,” Coleman told On3’s Chad Simmons following the news of Fisher’s firing on Nov. 12.
“Cam definitely is not leaving any boxes unchecked. He’s taken visits to Florida State, he’s been to Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Colorado, so he’s definitely keeping his options open, but right now he’s still committed to A&M, but other schools are very much in this mix,” Simmons said on Monday’s edition of The Inside Scoop.
Over the weekend, Coleman was in Tallahassee visiting Florida State. The Seminoles currently boast a 10-0 record, have plenty of recruiting momentum and are one of the programs pushing hard for the elite wideout. Simmons sees FSU and Auburn as the top two threats to flip Coleman from A&M with the Early Signing Period around five weeks away.
“I think tier one would be Florida State and Auburn,” Simmons said. “Going back to when he committed in July, Auburn and Florida State were the top two at that time, A&M kinda surprised some people, I think it would surprise some people now if they hold onto Cam Coleman.”
Cam Coleman Scouting Summary
“Twitched-up receiver with projectable size and length who is arguably the most physically-gifted pass catcher in the 2024 cycle. Projects as a dynamic X wide receiver. Measured in at 6-foot-3.5, 185 pounds with a 33.5-inch arm in the spring prior to his senior season. Tested as a rare athlete during the spring camp cycle. Pairs his athleticism and length to result in a large catch radius. Shows the ability to make eye-popping acrobatic grabs in contested situations. Adjusts to low and wide throws. Frames the ball at the catch point, using good technique. Flashed a relatively advanced release package off the line of scrimmage in the camp setting along with the burst and long-speed to separate on Friday nights. Has the long speed to separate downfield against top corners.
…Runs with toughness after the catch. Has a shorter stride length for a taller wide receiver. Doubles as an electric above-the-rim athlete on the basketball court. Young for the cycle, not turning 18 years-old until his freshman season of college. Does not have the same level of gaudy production as some other top-ranked 2024 wide receivers as he split targets with Michigan signee Karmello English as a junior. Has shown several signs of a very high developmental upside along with a rapid spike in his development over the course of his junior year.”
Coleman has an On3 NIL Valuation of $315K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
