Florida State makes big first impression on 5-star OT Josh Petty: ‘I loved it’
Five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty made his way to Florida State’s campus for the first time ever for practice on Tuesday. And it was a visit he won’t soon forget.
“I loved it; it was a great visit today,” Petty said. “Glad to get out here, see what Coach [Mike] Norvell and Coach [Alex] Atkins are about, and they’ve got a lot of energy out here. Practice was cool, you know. Physical, fast football.”
Petty, who hails from the Atlanta area, said he already has scheduled a few official visits but didn’t offer specifics. He added that he’s trying to set one up to Florida State.
Tuesday’s trip to FSU was the last of his scheduled visits for the spring. However, Petty said after his visit that he is still trying to get to a few more schools.
According to On3, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman is the 18th-best player in the country, as well as the fourth-best at his position in the 2025 class.
As for what stood out about Florida State on his visit, he said it was the message being sent by the staff.
“It’s been different, 100 percent,” Petty said. “Coach Atkins has been honest with me throughout this whole recruitment process, and I really appreciate that. He’ll shoot you straight. He really will, and he’s a good dude and a great place around here with good people.”
Like most offensive linemen considering FSU, the five-star said he likes the way he connects with Atkins.
“Me and Coach Atkins are real cool,” Petty said. “We talk every now and again, he’ll hit me up. He’s not one of those coaches that kind of spam me or anything like that, but he keeps it real with me, and I really appreciate that.”
Even though this was just his first time in Tallahassee, Petty made it clear that Florida State is very much a contender in his recruitment.
“I think FSU is up there for sure,” he said. “I didn’t really understand what it meant to be in Tallahassee until I got here, and what this place is and how special it really is until I was here.”
Petty now will look to schedule some more official visits as well as some more unofficials this spring.
