Former Hurricane Jon Feliciano helps 2026 OL Brody Smith earn Miami offer

Former Hurricane Jon Feliciano helps 2026 OL Brody Smith earn Miami offer

Over the past few months, rising sophomore Brody Smith out of Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, has seen a handful of offers roll in, with his latest coming from the Miami Hurricanes. And that was in part thanks to the help of former Cane and current San Francisco 49er Jon Feliciano.

Smith’s father, NFL veteran Lee Smith, played with Feliciano in the league, and after the former Hurricane recommended Smith’s tape to Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal, he was quickly offered.

“One of my dad’s former teammates texted him and told him that he had a kid he would think would help out the program,” Smith told CaneSport. “He sent him my film, and he told me he would love to have me at the program and offered me a scholarship. My eyes lit up because I love the program.”

To this day, Smith and Feliciano are still in contact, and the 6-foot-5, 240-pound sophomore expressed his thankfulness for the role that he played in helping him land the offer.

“It made me really happy, and I feel blessed to be in that situation,” Smith said. “It made me so excited to know that someone at that level notices me. I remember talking to him a lot when I was younger in the locker room, and we still talk occasionally.”

Growing up, Smith and his family were big Miami Hurricanes fans, so this offer was a bit more special for him as well.

“I was really happy because Miami has always been my family’s favorite team growing up,” Smith said. “My grandpa has always loved The U, and when I got the offer I was really excited to tell him and just tell my family. I’ve always really liked Miami. Growing up, I saw pictures of my mom in Miami gear, so they’ve all really liked them.”

The Tennessee native is a big fan of what Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal is doing with the program and believes the future is bright in Coral Gables.

“I really like what they’ve got going on down there, and I really like the coaches,” Smith said. “They’re really good people and really good with the players.”

CaneSport’s take

Closing in on 10 offers including the likes of Miami, Penn State, and Colorado, Smith is excited to see what the recruiting process holds and hopes to visit the Hurricanes soon. Smith is a name to know in the 2026 class and one we expect to become a prime target for Miami next cycle. “I look at schools that can get me prepared and make me the best version of myself,” Smith said. “There’s always a vibe I get from a coach, so that’s what I look at the most. I’d love to visit Miami.”
