Four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell preparing for Texas
2024 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy safety, Texas commit Jordon Johnson-Rubell was in Austin last weekend for the Texas-Texas Tech game. Now, he’s ready to call it home.
The Fort Worth (Texas) native is ready to be back in the Lone Star State for good, as he’ll enroll early at Texas in January.
“It was amazing,” Johnson-Rubell told Inside Texas. “All is well, I’m just ready for college. The atmosphere was crazy, probably the craziest one I’ve been to. Everyone was making plays and it was just a complete game.“
Johnson-Rubell, who picked the Longhorns over Ohio State, Michigan, TCU, and Florida over the summer, loved watching how many players from the Class of 2023 were playing for the Longhorns last weekend.
“Derek Williams, Malik Muhammad, lot of freshmen out there,” said Johnson-Rubell. “And Michael Taaffe is a dude. I’m trying to get Xavier (Filsaime) too.”
Johnson-Rubell plays safety for IMG, but his versatility could see him at a number of spots in the Texas secondary, including the Star/nickel.
“I’m trying to get Jahdae (Barron’s) position,” said Johnson-Rubell. “I’ve been playing that position since I was 15 years old. I can cover, blitz, and definitely tackle. Texas will tell me where they want me at.”
The four-star is up to 190 pounds and hopes to be ready when he arrives in January.
