Gators to No. 2-ranked TE: Come be like Kyle Pitts
When the Florida Gators host Miami on Aug. 31 for the season opener, a boatload of recruits will be present for the festivities.
One prospect Florida hopes to host that weekend is Kaiden Prothro, the No. 2-ranked tight end in the class of 2026. That is according to both On3 and the On3 Industry Ranking.
Prothro, who attends Carrollton (Ga.) Bowdon, earned a scholarship offer from the Gators in April. Over 30 others are on board as well, including Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and Michigan.
“I have plans to get down there for a game maybe,” Prothro said of UF when speaking to Gators Online. “I haven’t been down there yet, but I plan on getting down there for a game.
“They are a good program. They’re trending and they just got a new quarterback, so they have some weapons on their team. They’re just progressively getting better and I think they are going to be a good team in a couple years.”
Florida is making a good impression from afar
Since the spring, the 6-foot-6.5, 210-pound Prothro has been actively building a relationship with Gators tight ends coach Russ Callaway. That attention from the offensive assistant has been consistent.
Now, Prothro needs to get down to the Swamp to see everything with his own eyes. Doing so will give both parties a better understanding of where Florida fits into this crowded recruitment.
“I talk to him and everything, but it’s just hard because I haven’t been down there yet. I haven’t met all the coaches or anything,” Prothro said of Callaway. “What I can say right now is he’s a great guy and I like his personality. He just wants me down there and to be like how Kyle Pitts was and making plays. Just being who I am and going to get the ball and doing my thing.”
Kaiden Prothro is taking it one day at a time
Thankfully for the Gators though, the All-American pass catcher is in no hurry to make a commitment.
“I’m just kind of level with everything,” Prothro said. “Right now, I’m keeping my options open and still looking for what the best fit is for me. I’m just enjoying it right now instead of worrying about where I’m going. I am just enjoying it as much as I can and will worry about that later on.”
Prothro currently has one visit scheduled and it’s with Miami for July 27. Like the Gators, Mario Cristobal‘s program is having a recruiting cookout that day.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Georgia holds the slight advantage early on.
