Gators’ Will Harris pushing hard for Tennessee commit

Gators’ Will Harris pushing hard for Tennessee commit

No one said it was going to be easy changing the mind of Tennessee commit Dylan Lewis, but Florida and Michigan State are putting in the most work in hopes of pulling off the flip.

The Gators, however, hold the clear proximity advantage over MSU and could be the Vols’ top competition. They officially entered the race in January after hosting the cornerback for junior day.

According to the On3 rankings, the Milton (Ga.) standout is the No. 41 cornerback in his class.

“I hear from Will Harris, the DBs coach, three times a week,” Lewis told Gators Online. “It’s good. He’s just checking in on me, seeing how I’m doing, saying how he likes me as a player and wishes I can come play with him.”

While in Gainesville, the 3-star prospect went through an in-depth tour and quickly took notice of the hospitality. He is a former teammate of Florida safety Bryce Thornton as well, so there would be a certain level of comfort as a Gators student athlete.

“Just the way everyone is involved with the campus,” Lewis said of what impressed him in January. “You see a lot of people walking around, supporting Gators football and supporting the basketball team. It just seems like a very small community they built over there in Gainesville.”

When speaking with On3 after his Florida visit, Lewis said there was a good chance he would be returning to campus for an official visit. Is that still the case?

“I’m not so sure yet; I don’t know,” Lewis said.

Lewis doesn’t feel like just another recruit for Tennessee

As for the Volunteers, Lewis says it starts with the personal connections after committing to the program last October.

If all goes as planned, the 5-foot-11.5, 180-pound defensive back will return to Knoxville on March 23. That is the lone visit scheduled at this time.

“I’d say mainly the relationships I’ve built with the coaches, especially talking to coach (Josh) Heupel on a daily basis and talking to (secondary) coach (Willie) Martinez on a daily basis,” said Lewis. “They show a lot of love, so that stands out about them compared to other schools.

Additional offers on the table include Clemson, Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi State, N.C. State and Louisville.
