Gut Feelings: Where we think Auburn stands with transfer portal targets

Gut Feelings: Where we think Auburn stands with transfer portal targets

Auburn hosted several visitors during the short transfer portal window from Wednesday to Sunday. Each of those visitors are getting ready to make decisions. If recruits are unpredictable, transfers take it to another level. Just because another school may be picked here, does not mean Auburn is out of it by any means. These are not predictions, but rather final calls based on gut feeling and intel that we have at this time.

DL – Isaiah Raikes, Texas A&M

Raikes visited Auburn on Wednesday. He “left” the visit Thursday morning, then returned later Thursday afternoon/evening. His visit extended for another day. Then, Raikes made it up to USC for a visit. According to our intel, there was some confidence in landing Raikes before he left for the USC visit. The Tigers may still have some confidence here. I am not sure what to think here and believe it is very tight. Auburn won a battle against USC a year ago with Dillon Wade. This time, I’ll go with the Trojans, but it is close and could truly go either way. I am giving USC the slightest of edges at this time.

FINAL CALL: USC

TE – Rico Walker, Maryland

Walker was next on the visitors list. He visited Pittsburg first, then Auburn, then finished the weekend at USF. We think this might be more between Auburn and Pittsburgh with Louisville also involved. Auburn, though, seemed to have a good sales pitch with the Rivaldo Fairweather comparison. Walker being a legacy probably does not hurt either. Pittsburgh seems to be in this, but I like Auburn for now.

FINAL CALL: AUBURN

DL – Tomiwa Durojaiye, West Virginia

Durojaiye is a young talent that Auburn is very much hoping to land. He is a top priority for Florida State as well. It seems as though these are the two schools to watch right now. A decision timeline with Durojaiye as he did not interview when leaving. According to our intel, confidence is not great with Auburn. The Tigers are not out of it by any means, but it feels like the Noles have the edge here.

FINAL CALL: FLORIDA STATE

CB – RJ Delancy III, Toledo

Delancy visited Auburn, then quickly bolted to Wisconsin to end the weekend. He said a decision would happen soon–we are thinking as soon as Monday. While we don’t have much intel on how the Wisconsin trip went, it seems that Auburn made a great pitch. He left very high on Auburn. The Tigers need veteran help in the secondary and that could be a big factor as well. It feels as though Auburn makes sense here. The only question would be, does Auburn for sure want Delancy? We think the Tigers want him.

FINAL CALL: AUBURN

WR – CJ Daniels, Liberty

The familiar faces at Auburn seemed to be a big deal. There is some loyalty there with Hugh Freeze as Daniels mentioned that he recruited him out of high school. Daniels was a low 3-star, even 2-star recruit by at least one recruiting service. Despite that, Auburn will not be landing his former quarterback Kaidon Salter, and that could hurt Auburn. Also, he is interested in several schools such as Florida, Texas, LSU, and others. Right now, we do not feel Auburn will be the choice.

FINAL CALL: NOT AUBURN

OT – Percy Lewis, Mississippi State

Lewis was an on again, off again visit that finally made it in over the weekend. It sounded like he was glad the visit took place. The strength and conditioning program made a big impact. He is focused on keeping weight down and playing for one more year to get ready for the next level. Lewis also visited Arkansas and will choose between the Hogs and Auburn at any time. He is on the clock for a decision. Whichever school he chooses will make the announcement, not Lewis. We think this one is close, but give Auburn a slight edge.

FINAL CALL: AUBURN

DL – Trill Carter, Texas

Carter was the last visitor (that we know of) for the window. By all accounts, this visit seemed to be going well. He spent time with both defensive line coaches Jeremy Garrett and Vontrell King-Williams. Carter slipped out before media was able to talk to him, but it would be somewhat shocking if Auburn were not the pick here. There is a chance that Auburn is not ready to push for him, but we think the Tigers want him at this time.

FINAL CALL: AUBURN
