‘He gets me fired up’: Jaxson Dart ready to get Juice Wells in the mix with Ole Miss offense

THIBODAUX, La. — The Ole Miss offense was good with what it was returning from last year’s historic team but the transfer portal provided a boost with Juice Wells making the move from South Carolina.

The Gamecocks leading receiver from 2022 arrived in Oxford still banged up, missing spring practices after an offseason surgery. Wells would attend practices but would do so off on the sidelines, soaking in what he could with his new offense.

A couple months removed from spring practices concluding Wells is still on the road to getting back to 100 percent but there has been positive news on that front this summer.

On Friday Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart provided a bit of an update on Wells when talking with the Ole Miss Spirit at the Manning Passing Academy.

“He’s getting a lot better. It’s been fun to watch his progression right now,” Dart said of Wells. “He’s done really good in rehab. He’s been super consistent. Liking the way he’s been moving around and I can’t wait to get him out there.”

Getting Wells healthy with roughly a month before fall camp is set to start will bring a big boost to the Ole Miss offense as it works in another new player and awaiting the arrival of Deion Smith to campus, too.

Wells was a standout at South Carolina before undergoing surgery ahead of last season. An injury in the game against Georgia cut the 2023 campaign short. In 2022 Wells led the Gamecocks with 68 catches for 928 yards and six touchdowns.

In preparing what Wells can bring to the Ole Miss offense Dart has been watching what he has already done in his career. The potential excites the Heisman hopeful quarterback.

“I was in the facility right before I came out I was watching his tape with coach Kiffin and (Ole Miss offensive coordinator) coach (Charlie) Weis,” Dart added. “He gets me fired up every time I watch him, so I can’t wait to have him out there.”

Wells will be joining a receiving corp that is led by a returning Tre Harris plus Jordan Watkins. Pro Football Talk is also high on Wells, comparing him to a very successful NFL receiver.

“He’s got shades of Dez Bryant to his game,” Trevor Sikkema said earlier this week.
