Hurricanes commit sees a bright future for Miami after weekend visit: “I’m going to be that one thing that changes the program”
Top-250 prospect Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star 2025 receiver/Miami commitment Waden Charles was on hand in the recruiting section for the Hurricanes matchup against the Louisville Cardinals this past weekend.
Despite falling just short against their conference foe, Charles, who has been committed to Miami since September, liked what he saw from the Hurricanes offensively.
“Miami’s offense ran a lot of explosive plays,” Charles told CaneSport. “They had a good ground game, which opened up a lot of things for the receivers to make plays, and that’s what they did.”
Following the contest, the 6-foot-1.5, 180-pounder spoke with Hurricanes wide receivers coach Kevin Beard for some time, who explained to him what he envisions the program to look like in the near future. Charles sees himself as a big part of what Miami has planned down the road.
“He’s just telling me things are going to start coming around in the years to come,” Charles said. “They’re just missing a few little things, and I feel like in the years to come, I’m going to be that one thing that changes the program.”
As of late, Charles has added a handful of new Power Five offers as his recruitment continues to take shape – he hauled in 478 receiving yards with seven touchdowns this season at Palm Beach Central. The No. 33 ranked wide receiver in the 2025 class currently lists over 25 offers and recently added offers from Ole Miss and Maryland.
“It’s been picking up for me a lot recently,” Charles said. “A lot of schools have been coming in and showing me love. Maryland just offered me and Penn State, Auburn, Tennessee, Kansas, and other schools like that.”
Although other programs continue to pursue the No. 236 overall prospect, Charles says he is still firmly committed to Miami for a number of reasons.
“It’s just the constant love they’ve been showing me,” Charles said when asked what stands out the most about Miami. “They’re letting me know I’m a big priority in this class and that when I get here, I can make a huge impact. That’s what is making me stay locked in.”
CaneSport’s take
Last weekend marked Charles’ third game-day visit this season to Miami, and the 2025 prospect continues to rave about the Hurricanes despite some of their struggles this season. Although other schools have continued to pursue the talented pass-catcher, Miami remains in the driver’s seat, and a strong showing to end the season would also help. “I just want them to end the season with a win,” Charles said. “Just keep making big plays, and they should be in a good position to win.”
