In-state DB Chris McCorkle sets Florida Gators official visit

Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney 3-star cornerback Chris McCorkle has locked in his official visit for the Florida Gators. According to McCorkle, it will take place June 7-9.

McCorkle also has an official visit scheduled to Indiana on May 31-June 2.

McCorkle, listed at 6-foot-1 and 173 pounds, is the No. 42 cornerback in the country for the On3 Industry Rankings. He is former teammates with Teddy Foster, a 2024 Gators cornerback signee.

Florida defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong recently visited McCorkle’s school. McCorkle has also been to Gainesville five times for four games and a Junior Day visit earlier this year on Jan. 13.

“What makes them my top school right now is because when they first offered me, it was genuine from the start,” McCorkle told On3’s Chad Simmons. “The offer was from Corey Raymond, but with the new DB coach – Will Harris – as everybody knows, he’s about his business. When we met, it was genuine there too. One of my former teammates plays there, so I get informed about the stuff that goes on there. Everything sounds good and fits my criteria.”

Thus far, Harris has made a great impression on McCorkle.

“Coach Harris is experienced,” McCorkle said. “He coached defensive backs in the NFL, so he knows what he’s doing… You’re learning from the best.”

McCorkle recorded 24 total tackles and eight interceptions as a junior.

It’s likely, he also will unofficially visit Florida this spring. Other unofficials will go to the following schools:

—Purdue: March 28
—Illinois: March 29
—Iowa: March 30
—Kansas: TBA

Florida State is another program of note in McCorkle’s recruitment. He visited the Seminoles in January and they impressed him.“Florida State is a strong in-state school,” McCorkle told Simmons. “They have a great program, Coach Mike Norvell is doing a great job and I like Coach Pat Surtain a lot. There is some competition with Florida and Florida State. Miami would be in there too if they offered. I like the schools in the home state.”
