Iowa fan protests controversial fair catch call behind home plate at World Series
The World Series turns to Phoenix, with the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks tied at one heading into Game 3. A pivotal game in a series between two teams nobody really expected to face off against one another. It’s the last place you would expect Iowa Football to be a point of conversation but here we are on Monday night.
When watching the broadcast on FOX, it’s nearly impossible to not see the bright yellow shirt standing behind home plate. A man is wearing an Iowa shirt and even brought a sign with him. It reads “It wasn’t a fair catch”, referencing the Hawkeyes game against Minnesota.
The man will hold up the sign while the pitcher delivers his pitch, being really consistent during the fourth inning. He is just trying to get the word out there, attempting to do justice for Iowa. Nothing but respect for this kind of move, proving once again why college football is the goofiest sport out there.
You can check out the sign out here.
Iowa thought they were going to squeeze a win out against Minnesota following a punt return by Cooper DeJean. He was originally pointing to the ball, alerting his teammates to stay away from the ball so the Golden Gophers did not have the chance to fall on it.
DeJean eventually picked the ball up and ran all the way down for a touchdown before the officials called the play back, claiming a fair catch was called. Clearly, there are still some hurt feelings about it in Iowa City… or Chase Field in Phoenix.
