Jerrick Gibson shuts down recruitment
At least ten Texas commitments are scheduled to be in Austin this weekend.
One of those is On3 Industry Ranking 4-star running back Jerrick Gibson.
The 5-foot-10, 207-pound downhill running back with excellent vision will be making the visit four days after Steve Sarkisian makes an in-home visit.
“My in-home with Coach Sark is tomorrow (Monday),” Gibson told On3 Sunday afternoon. “It’s in the morning in Ocala, where my family lives.”
Gibson shuts down his recruitment
Along with the timing of Sarkisian’s in-home visit Monday, the No. 5 ranked running back in the 2024 cycle shared some news.
Gibson told On3 that he has shut down his recruitment.
“They (Florida) kind of expected it.” Said Gibson.
Gibson added that he doesn’t have an in-home visit with Florida scheduled this week.
The Gators are expected to recruit Gibson #ThroughtheWhistle, of course.
Tashard Choice at IMG Academy last Thursday
Gibson, ranked No. 82 in the On3 Industry Ranking, was visited by running backs coach Tashard Choice December 7.
Choice’s message to Gibson was simple.
“He said he can’t wait until I get down there and go to work.”
And Gibson said that he is ready to start the next chapter of his career.
“I’m just ready to see myself develop as a young man and player. And see myself hit the field.”
Gibson told On3 he is close with all the Texas running backs on campus, especially Sunshine State freshman Cedric Baxter Jr.
Jerrick Gibson On3 personal life profile
Jerrick Gibson was a star long before he arrived at IMG Academy. He was known as one of the top youth football stars in the country before he emerged on the national recruiting scene as a freshman at Gainesville (Florida) High School, where he participated in the FBU Freshman All-America Bowl. He then transferred to Jonesboro (Georgia) Mundy’s Mill as a sophomore, where he earned all-region honors after rushing for 626 yards and four scores in seven tackles. He then transferred to IMG Academy ahead of his junior season. At football powerhouse IMG, Gibson rushed for 608 yards and eight scores in 2022. Gibson also tests well in a combine setting, recording an electronically timed 4.57-second 40-yard dash, a 40.3-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot broad jump after his sophomore year in high school.
Gibson played his final two seasons of high school football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Gibson rushed 210 times for 1,348 yards and 16 touchdowns in 18 games for the Ascenders. That included 127 carries for 740 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023.
The Sunshine State native is the No. 82 ranked prospect overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He checks in as the No. 5 ranked running back, and No. 14 ranked prospect in the state of Florida.
