Jerry Jones wants Cowboys to take inspiration from Rangers’ ‘road warriors’
The Dallas Cowboys face one of their toughest tests of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking on the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles on the road at Lincoln Financial. Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones just witnessed another team from DFW win it big on the road and is hoping his squad can mirror that success.
“I used to worry about homefield advantage until the Rangers showed me they could win the championship away,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “So I’ve changed my tune off of this great job the Rangers have done.”
The Texas Rangers won their first World Series in a stunning run against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. Not only did they beat the Diamondbacks in their home stadium, they won each series on the way to the finals on the road.
“You couldn’t have red blood in your veins and have the chance to compete for something and not be additionally inspired by the Rangers,” Jones continued. “I’m inspired by their manager, by their ownership, by the numerous guys who stepped up to make that happen. It’s the consummate definition of a team. So many things have to come together to make it hit just right. Then, it’s like catching a falling star. It’s hard to have it fall together. But give me these road warriors and I’ll take on about anything, in sports or out of sports, if they play the way these Rangers did on the road.”
Head coach Mike McCarthy would love it if some of that good fortune would rub off on his team this weekend as they travel to face the seven-win Philadelphia Eagles.
“Those Rangers. Such an unbelievable run,” McCarthy said Thursday morning during his press conference with the local media. “I think what really jumps out to me is winning the games on the road. Hopefully, we get a little luck from those guys there. That was a great series. A great playoff run.”
Dak Prescott compares Lincoln Financial to SEC environment
Prior to the Sunday clash, Dak Prescott was asked about the environment at Lincoln Financial Field. He compared it to his college playing days in the SEC, which is a huge compliment for the venue.
“It’s just a good atmosphere for football, honestly. I guess you could say growing up in the SEC, a lot of different venues and stadiums that you can feel it when you get near the stadium,” Prescott said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“Eat, sleep, breathe the game of football, the fans’ excitement, the atmosphere, the close games, the energy. When you walk into (Lincoln Financial Field), it’s no different. It feels like some of those old Saturday nights, fans are going to get loud, you gotta make sure your communication is top notch. And then it’s always fun getting a win up there.”
As much as Prescott complimented the Eagles and Lincoln Financial Field, fans in Philly will probably hold on to that final comment … especially if the Cowboys don’t escape with a victory.
