John Harbaugh sends playful ‘scouting’ dig at brother Jim
Everyone’s got jokes about Jim Harbaugh and sign stealing, even his brother John. The Baltimore Ravens head coach was on hand when his brother won the national championship for Michigan Monday.
But with John Harbaugh getting ready for a Divisional Round playoff game against an unknown opponent, he wanted scouts out at the Kansas City Chiefs game, when they host the Dolphins Saturday night. However, flights were canceled so there is no scouting currently.
John decided to remind everyone, and his brother, that what he’s doing is allowed.
“It’s gonna be interesting in Kansas City,” John Harbaugh said. “It’s going to be very interesting. We’ve got some scouts whose flights have been canceled going out there. Trying to get out there to scout the game, which is legal in pro football by the way.”
Of course, Jim Harbaugh served his suspension for the alleged sign stealing scandal at Michigan. Unlike the NFL, you can’t send advanced scouts to other locations to look at future opponents in college.
No matter for the Ravens though, who are the No. 1 seed and have the week off. Meanwhile Jim is celebrating a national title and potentially getting ready for a leap back to the NFL.
According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Harbaugh is set to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The two report that the meeting is set to take place next week and that Harbaugh “has indicated to associates there’s a real possibility he could leave the University of Michigan to become Los Angeles’ head coach.”
Rapoport and Pelissero added that the Las Vegas Raiders could also have interest in Harbaugh. However, Adam Schefter reported Saturday morning that interim coach Antonio Pierce is the favorite to land the Raiders job.
While Harbaugh going to the NFL continues to seem like a real possibility, Michigan isn’t giving up without a fight.
According to the report from Rapoport and Pelissero, Michigan is continuing to negotiate with Harbaugh and trying to work out a deal that would keep him in Ann Arbor. It sounds as if we will know soon if the Wolverines are indeed able to do that.
Harbaugh played at Michigan and has been the head coach of the Wolverines since 2015. Prior to that, he spent four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and was successful, taking the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
Perhaps he’ll do some legal scouting this time around if he’s in the pros by next fall.
