Kansas State players of the game in loss to Texas
Kansas State offensive MVP: Will Howard
Kansas State quarterback Will Howard played with his hair on fire in the second half. The senior tied a career high with four passing touchdowns in the 33-30 loss to Texas. At one point, Howard had three passing touchdowns on four plays.
The Pennsylvania native finished 26-for 42 for 327 yards and the four touchdowns. Howard did throw an interception that was not necessarily his fault and had a fumble in the second half. The seniors ability to throw the ball kept K-State in the game and almost led to a major comeback.
Phillip Brooks had a solid game as well. The super senior had five catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns. The second touchdown was one of Brooks’ best plays of his career tight roping the sideline.
Keagan Johnson also had the best game of his Wildcat career. The Iowa transfer had seven catches for 70 yards and also had a touchdown. Johnson narrowly had a big play in the second half, but bobbled it and led to the Howard interception.
K-State defensive MVP: Jake Clifton
While the Kansas State defense had some struggles, Jake Clifton was probably the most consistent player in Austin. Clifton was tied for the most tackles with eight and was making plays all over the field. Where the sophomore really excelled was getting stops on a few key third down plays.
Will Lee also had eight tackles and added a key fumble recovery in the second half. Lee was especially productive in the run game getting tackles.
Jacob Parrish had some struggles, but did have two interceptions on the day as well.
Special teams MVP: Shane Porter
Special teams was also a bit of a mixed bag for K-State. Shane Porter blocked a punt that really gave the Wildcats a spark they desperately needed in the first half.
Jack Blumer continues to be a weapon for Kansas State punting as well. The super senior averaged 45 yards per punt and continues to have punts downed inside the 20.
Chris Tennant was 1-of-2 on field goals. After missing a field goal with just under two minutes to go, it was big for Tennant to bounce back and send the game to overtime.
