Kentucky prospect with strong interest from midwest power lands Miami Hurricanes offer: “They love my film”
Frankfort (Ky.) Western Hills three-star defensive lineman Javeon Campbell has already received his share of interest from different programs, but Miami still made its move to enter the recruiting picture recently.
Campbell, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman currently listed as the No. 404 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 26 defensive lineman in the 2025 class by On3, added his 12th Division I offer when the Hurricanes made their move during the final week of February in a month that’s featured plenty of action. Campbell added offers from Michigan State, Louisville and Kentucky to start the month and visited Notre Dame Feb. 1 after adding an offer from the Fighting Irish a week earlier. He has added 11 of his 12 Division I offers since the start of the new year.
“I was on the bus coming back from a practice and coach (Dennis Smith, Miami’s executive director of football) reached out and then he said the the University of Mami was (offering) me a scholarship,” Campbell said. “And then later at work I talked to him and was talking about how they found me and how they love my film.”
Campbell said he was “shocked and excited” when the Hurricanes extended the offer after it took him by surprise. The EDGE also holds Power conference offers from Minnesota, Purdue, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt.
“I didn’t expect it at all,” Campbell said. “And I’m thankful that the coaches think i could be a piece to help the program become an even better program.”
Campbell joins a group of Miami EDGE targets including prospects like four-star Notre Dame decommit CJ May, five-star linebacker/EDGE Zayden Walker and a number of defensive line recruits plenty capable of playing on the edge. The Hurricanes have already offered well over a dozen defensive linemen and EDGEs in the 2025 class.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami has been much more selective with its defensive line and EDGE recruiting this cycle after pursuing the positions hard a year ago, and given the current stockpile of blue-chip playmakers in the Hurricanes’ defensive trenches Miami has the luxury of being able to place a more concerted focus on a smaller number of defensive line and EDGE prospects in a class not as deep at the positions as the 2024 cycle.
