Kevin Harvick on Kyle Busch: ‘It’s a disastrous mess’

It’s been a season filled with disastrous days for Kyle Busch, and that continued in this past Sunday’s race at New Hampshire.

Busch started the race back in 30th and didn’t progress much. He fell two laps down at one point and then went for a spin on Lap 154. When the race was getting ready to resume following a two-hour and 15-minute rain delay, Busch spun out again during the pace laps and couldn’t get his No. 8 Chevrolet to re-fire. Just like that, Busch’s day came to an end, a second straight P35 finish and his third in the past four races.

Kevin Harvick, speaking on his “Happy Hour” podcast this week, went as far to describe Busch’s season to this point as a “disastrous mess.”

Kyle Busch heading in wrong direction during playoff push

“I don’t even like talking about it anymore, but we have to,” Harvick said. “It’s one of those scenarios where it just keeps getting worse. They ran at what I consider one of his best racetracks, they ran in the thirties in the dry and then crashed under caution. He wound of crashing I think twice before the rain came if I’m not mistaking. It’s easier to be in Christopher Bell’s scenario because of the fact they had speed. He went through six or eight weeks there where they were just having miserable finishes but they all knew they had speed in the car.

“The problem with Kyle Busch’s scenario at this particular point is they don’t have any speed in that car for the most part. They’ve had a couple places where they’ve been OK, but they don’t have that speed like the 20 has to keep the morale where it needs to be to recover from all these instances where they’re having all these things go wrong. Right now, if it’s gonna go wrong, it’s gonna go wrong for Kyle Busch because it is a disastrous mess unfortunately for everybody on that 8 team.”

With his latest disappointment at New Hampshire, Busch now sits 45 points back of Joey Logano for the 16th and final spot in the playoff field. Unlikely to get in on points, Busch has to win to keep his playoff streak dating back to 2012 alive. Unfortunately for Busch, he is riding a career-long 39-race winless streak and Victory Lane sure seems far away with eight regular season races remaining.
