Lone Star State WR Ashton Ansley sets Gators official visit

Another Gators target in the Lone Star State has scheduled an official visit with Billy Napier’s staff.

Ashton Ansley, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound junior from Tomball (Texas) Memorial, tells Gators Online he is journeying out to Gainesville in April.

“Just an update on UF: I plan to take an OV the weekend of April 5-6,” Ansley said on Wednesday.

If all goes as planned, the 3-star prospect will be returning to the Swamp this summer as well.

When speaking with GO in January, Ansley glowed about the Gators and immediately placed them “at the top” of his recruitment.

“I think it would be great to have (wide receivers) coach (Billy) Gonzales coach me up and see how he coaches firsthand. I know he has coached a lot of great wide receivers and would love to learn in a camp setting from someone who could be my next position coach,” Ansley previously told GO.

“Florida is a national program and school that historically wins championships. I love the Gators’ colors. Plus, they have amazing fans who already have shown me so much love. I love how the stadium looks and can’t wait to see how it looks live on game day. I’m very excited to see a few games.”

The DJ Lagway effect

Another significant attraction to the Gators is the presence of quarterback DJ Lagway.

Ansley have worked out with the 5-star talent plenty of times and can now officially team up with him.

Playing pitch and catch with a quarterback of Lagway’s caliber is a dream scenario for any wide receiver.

“DJ and I have a great relationship and I enjoy training with him. That dude pushes everyone to get better, and plus, he is a really good person. He talks a lot about the Gators. He is an amazing player and it’s a blessing to now have the opportunity to be his teammate,” Ansley previously told GO.

“I believe the program is building in the right direction from what I’ve seen. I have watched a lot of games since DJ committed there and wanted to see what the team looked like. A few points here and there changes the record a lot. I can’t wait to get up there and learn more about the culture of the team and vision of the program.”

Additional offers on the table include Ole Miss, South Carolina and Arkansas State.

During the 2023 season, Ansley hauled in 32 passes for 689 yards and 11 touchdowns.
