Lucky Charms: Prospects on commit watch for Notre Dame’s junior day weekend
Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.
Notre Dame’s massive recruiting weekend begins in less than 48 hours. For the full visitor preview, check out Blue & Gold’s article from Thursday afternoon.
Below is a look at a half-dozen prospects who Blue & Gold sources have identified as potential players who are visiting this weekend that could come off the board soon with a Notre Dame commitment. They are listed in alphabetical order.
Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School OL Matty Augustine: Spoiler alert, I have three offensive linemen listed in this article as I really feel like they’re going to start flying off the board. Will Black‘s commitment to Notre Dame in December was a big domino that fell and may push up decision timelines for the other prospects. I was told the Irish were only taking three O-linemen in the 2025 cycle, but you have to wonder if the staff would take four considering the talent of the group.
With Augustine specifically, he’s been such a regular visitor to campus, and his close friend, safety Ethan Long, is committed to the Irish already. Wisconsin is doing a great job with Augustine, but this still looks like Notre Dame’s recruitment to lose. Augustine has visited his top choices a good bit; has he seen enough to make a decision?
Atlanta Woodward Academy WR Jerome Bettis Jr.: It’s got to be close to being time that he picks the Irish, right? To my knowledge, Bettis isn’t out and about visiting other schools, while he’s been to Notre Dame a handful of times. And per sources, nothing has changed with how Notre Dame views him; he’s a take for sure. We’ll see how the visit this weekend goes.
Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep CB Dallas Golden: Notre Dame sources loved where the Irish stood for Golden very early in his recruiting process, but then a few months ago, the optimism dropped a bit. But in talking with folks connected in this recruitment recently, the optimism has really picked back up. Notre Dame looks to be the team to beat for Golden, and it’d be a big deal if he picks the Irish. He could play cornerback, safety or on offense at the next level.
Eureka (Mo.) High OL Jack Lange: Augustine and the player listed below have been targets for a longer period of time than Lange, but after seeing his junior tape and getting eyes on him in person, Lange shot up the board. He first visited campus for the Pittsburgh game; his return visit this weekend could be huge. Notre Dame sources believe he’s leaning towards the Irish. It wouldn’t come as a shock if he pops in the near future, but again, there are many variables with the potential dominos that can fall on the O-line board.
Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial OL Owen Strebig: Let’s say Augustine and Lange commit to Notre Dame right now. There’s no way the staff would turn away Strebig, right? He’s been leaning towards the Irish for such a long time, and although Wisconsin is doing a good job recruiting him lately, the feeling is that the elite tackle prospect still has Notre Dame on top of his recruitment. He may want to stretch his recruitment out a bit longer, but if the Irish staff knocks the visit this weekend out of the park, could he push up his timeline?
Indianapolis Ben Davis CB Mark Zackery: Notre Dame has looked good in this recruitment for several months. Blue & Gold logged a prediction back in August for him to choose the Irish, but admittedly, that was a projection pick. The feeling was the Notre Dame and Ohio State were in a very tight battle, but the new vibe is that the Irish have pulled ahead. And Zackery could be closing in on a decision. What a major get this would be for the Irish.
