Miami, Clemson among schools battling for top-150 WR who took Monday visit to Coral Gables for spring practice: “Atmosphere was amazing”
Homestead (Fla.) four-star 2025 receiver Cortez Mills’ recruiting battle is still plenty tight, but with spring visit season starting Monday, the No. 125 overall prospect and No. 14 receiver in this year’s cycle has an idea of his top contenders.
Miami, Clemson, Nebraska, LSU, Florida, Penn State and Auburn are among programs still in the mix for Mills, and he’s already set up official visits with Clemson May 31, Florida June 7, Nebraska June 14 and Miami June 21. Mills says that Miami, Clemson and Auburn have been the most consistent, and both Miami and Clemson have done a good job connecting with his mother early, which he said will be important in his final decision.
Helping the Canes’ cause with Mills?
Well, he visited Miami again Monday for the Hurricanes’ first spring practice and will visit LSU this weekend. He’ll also visit Auburn March 17, Missouri March 20, Florida March 23, Clemson April 6 and Oklahoma April 20. He’ll also make a trip to Penn State at the end of March, but Miami has continued an aggressive push for the 6-foot-1, 170-pound wideout and made a good impression on his most recent visit.
Mills said his time on campus Monday watching spring practice was “great,” the Hurricanes showed “a lot of love, and the atmosphere was amazing.” His mother also said the coaches were “outstanding.”
Mills was also named On3’s top performer and MVP for the Under Armour showcase.
“Miami is hometown to me,” said Mills, who lives roughly an hour south of Coral Gables in Homestead. “Ever since Miami has been recruiting me they’ve been keeping in contact. They’ve got a great bond with me, and it’s not too far from home, so that’s what stands out to me the most about Miami.”
Mills said the other schools he plans to official visit along with LSU and Penn State have all done good jobs staying in constant contact and making him feel prioritized, which he continues to value. His upcoming spring visits and summer official visits will be massively important to his decision later this year.
“When I take my visits to the schools, I’ve just got to feel like I’m at home,” Mills said. “I’ve just got to fall in love with the program.”
CaneSport’s Take
Miami and Clemson have made very, very strong impressions early on, and both him and his mother like Dabo Swinney, who has been involved in his recruitment. So Miami will need to match or exceed Clemson’s recruiting intensity. Mills’ decision could easily come down to official visits. If the Hurricanes are able to out-perform the competition on his trip to Coral Gables, which is something head coach Mario Cristobal has done well in his two full recruiting cycles as Miami’s head coach, we could see buzz pick up around the Canes.
