Miami “probably” at the top for 6-foot-7, 330 pound OL Jaden Wilkerson: “They’re going to be special soon”

Miami “probably” at the top for 6-foot-7, 330 pound OL Jaden Wilkerson: “They’re going to be special soon”

Since receiving an offer from the Miami Hurricanes in January, Edgewater (Fla.) three-star offensive lineman Jaden Wilkerson has felt the love from the Canes. That was even further felt a week ago when he received over a dozen handwritten cards from Miami’s staff, whom he named his top school.

“It just made me feel like I’m special,” Wilkerson told CaneSport. “They really put their trust in me by offering me, and they think I can be a special player at Miami. Miami is probably at the top of my list, right now. Miami is a great place to be and a very beautiful place to be. Who wouldn’t want to play by the beach.”

Over the last three months, the 6-foot-7, 330-pounder has built a strong relationship with Miami’s staff, with offensive line coach Alex Mirabal being his primary recruiter alongside offensive analyst Edwin Pata and Canes head coach Mario Cristobal.

“Miami is great, and coach Mirabal is a real personable guy,” Wilkerson said. “I’ve also spoken with coach Cristobal and Pata, and they’re all great people. Just the whole staff is really nice, personable, and knows how to talk to people outside of football.”

Although Wilkerson has not been on campus just yet, that will change March 30 – he has locked in his first visit to Coral Gables for that weekend.

“I just want to see a great environment,” Wilkerson said. “Somewhere, I can see myself playing for 3–4 years. Somewhere I can see myself growing not only as a football player, but as a man and person as well. Just getting better at my craft every day, getting pushed to my limits every day, and I know coach Mirabal will do that for me.”

Wilkerson is a firm believer in the Hurricanes and thinks the program’s success in recruiting in both the transfer portal and high school ranks has set Miami up for success.

“They’re definitely building something special down there,” Wilkerson said. “They’ve got a new transfer in Cam Ward. They’ve also got some Florida boys like Joshisa Trader, who’s there now as well. They’ve got a lot of talent coming in, and they’re going to be special soon.”

Early on Syracuse, UCF, and Miami are the schools Wilkerson says have shown him the most interest.

“Those schools are definitely the main ones,” Wilkerson said. “I want to grow as a football player, and my main goal is to go to the NFL, but I also want to be a great man. I also want to be a person who can help out in the community and not be one-dimensional, just as a football player. I don’t want to only be looked at as a football player but as a great person.”

CaneSport’s take

While Wilkerson is a bit of an unknown prospect to some, that has not stopped Miami from heavily recruiting the massive offensive lineman, who is extremely high on the Canes. With Miami already at the top of his list, a great visit could potentially seal the deal for Wilkerson later this month.
